Did you know that you can join adult sports leagues through the Conejo Recreation and Parks District?? [The Fall Basketball League just started, but you can register for the Fall Soccer League now. Check out here for more deets!]
My husband and brother-in-law Luke (Hayley’s husband) participated in the men’s soccer league last year, after first playing a few pickup games at the Pepper Tree Playfield Park in Newbury Park. A couple of the guys had invited them to join the league so they thought they’d give it a go.
[And from the wife of a player, I can confidently say that he really enjoyed it.] They met some cool 805-ers, got a free workout and got to brush up on their soccer skills! Plus, check out their team’s awesome pink camo jerseys! 😉
But if you can’t commit to a weekly scheduled game, instead you can simply play pickup games on Thursday nights. Don’t hesitate to join these if you aren’t in an official league either — Nicole’s husband Brett plays pickup games when his work schedule allows even though he’s not part of a league. Pickup games are a fun way to meet new people and get more involved. It’s a super laid-back environment and they’re always looking for new players – all levels welcome:) Plus, it’s a great way for some extra practice (and a free workout!)!
To give you a better idea, Luke didn’t even play soccer growing up and now he’s become quite the player thanks to his soccer league practice 🙂
It’s even fun for those not playing, like us. I like to cheer them on during the games. I bring my dog Matix (and now I’ll bring Reese!), hot drink of choice, camera, blanket and then I make my way over to Dos Vientos Community Park!
Also, if you’re not into soccer, don’t worry – the Conejo Recreation and Parks District offers adult basketball, softball, volleyball and soccer for men’s, women’s and co-ed leagues. So get to it!
If you have a team of your own, you can easily register online through their website. And if you need more players or if you’re an individual looking to join a league, you can email or call the office to get more information on registering as an individual player.
Even if you’re not in the Conejo Valley, make sure to check out your local recreation & park district for Adult Sports Leagues info.
Not only is it a great way to exercise (for basically free), but they’re also a great way to meet new people in the community. My husband and brother-in-law really enjoy playing with their team, even after long days at work. Plus, a lot of the guys go out for a bite to eat and drink after the games – which is another fun way for them to all hangout.
