Carry-On Necessities {Airplane Kit DIY}

Yeah yeah yeah, I know this is a “local” blog, but sometimes we have to leave this area that we call Paradise, and check outΒ the rest of the world πŸ˜‰

By the time you read this, I will be winging my way to Maui for our 7th anniversary/babymoon (yes, I’m preggers — yayyy!). Β And, Hayley is currently in South Africa with her hubby for a 2 1/2 week adventure + safari! Β Needless to say, our team at LL805 has a serious case of wanderlust.

This post was originally inspired by our latest trip a few months ago, which involved a 12 1/2 hour long plane flight to Moscow, followed by 7Β more flights over the course of 2 weeks, and then another 12-hour flight from Sweden to LAX (long story, but just go with me on this).

I love traveling with my husband, and luckily he tolerates my weird travel habits loves to travel with me, too.

We might be a little ambitious when it comes to prepping for our trips — not so much in planning every detail for when we are there, but mostly for making sure that “travel hiccups” don’t get in our way of having a good vacay.

When we get to a destination, we try to hit the ground running so that we can pack in as much fun as possible. Β One of our favorite ways toΒ feel refreshed during and afterΒ a long flight is to pack our carry-on with our “airplane survival kit.”

Here’s what we have in ours:

Oral-B Wisps: after breathing in recycled air for hours on end, they’re the closest thing to a good tooth-brushing, and make you feel surprisingly fresh and clean!

Face + body wipes: I love these ones fromΒ Yes to Cucumbers, but have liked Burt’s Bees brand, as well. Β Feels second best to a shower, but in a pinch, they’re great.

Mini deodorant: a quick swipe-swipe, and voila — fresh as a daisy!

Lip balm: that recycled airplane air will chap your lips faster than you can say “cotton mouth.” Be prepared.

Gum: Who wants plugged ears? Β Not this girl!

Hair Brush + Mirror Combo: if my hair is tangly, you can bet I’m not a happy camper.

Snack Bars: … likewise, if I’m hungry, you’re probably going to want to steer clear of me.

Eye mask + ear plugs: since we’re not able to spring for business or first class, we try our best to get some shut-eye back with the “little people” back in coach. Β Which brings me to…

The World’s Best Neck Pillow: ok, so it’s not really called that, but I feel it should be. Β Memory foam, great support, compact… I could go on. Β Just get a good one, because it’s worth the investment (I’m looking at you, inflatable neck pillow).

Tide Pen: this is for when you spill your free international travel red wine on yourself after your fifth second glass.

Hand sanitizing gel: with both of us in the healthcare field, we are hyper-aware of how many germs are on airplanes (ew). Β Do your best to keep your hands clean, and you will hopefully avoid fun-sucking illnesses during your travels!

Empty reusable water bottle: getting dehydrated on a plane is serious business, and you can’t just wait for the stewardess to come around — fill up your water bottle (after you get through security, of course) and keep drinking H2O! Just apologize ahead of time to the person in the aisle seat, because you will have to pee a lot — that’s a good thing, though.

See, look how refreshed and ready to go we look!

Bon voyage! #leavingonajetplane #aloha!

I always pack disinfecting wipes to give my tray table/arm rests a wipedown before I settle in for the flight. I may look a little cray-cray but the last thing I want is to get sick as I’m starting a trip.

    Also, my kindle.
