3 Must-Haves for a Killer Workout Class [& how StudioBPM has them all]

Let’s just make one thing clear: we are pretty picky when it comes to workout classes. Also, workout classes and memberships are NOT cheap.

So, in our opinion, you have every reason to be a bit pickier than normal — especially when it comes with a service you are paying for and ultimately, investing in.

Having spent almost two years as ClassPass members, we’ve spent a lot of time in various studios across LA and the 805 — and from those experiences, we’ve put some “must-haves” in place.

Last week, we got the chance to stop in to the new StudioBPM in Agoura Hills for a Cycle + Circuit Combo class — and lived to tell the tale 😉 Let’s just say that they hit all of our requirements for a seriously amazing workout!  This class was 25 minutes of full body circuit training, followed by 30 minutes of cycling, but StudioBPM offers many different classes involving strength training, cycling, and combinations of the two!

We are so thrilled to give you our review of this new workout studio [and stay tuned for our husbands’ experience in the weeks to come!].

Here are our three major requirements for a buzz-worthy workout class, and how StudioBPM satisfied all of our requirements [take note, local studios!]:

1. If we’re not sweating, we’re not interested.

Nothing makes us feel like we’ve wasted our time + money more, like walking away from a class without being drenched in sweat.  Let’s face it — workout classes can be a serious investment, and we want to really feel like we did something during that hour.

After 25 minutes of circuit training, I already felt like I had gotten a full workout — we’re talking weights, burpees, planks, squats, shoulder presses, TRX bands, resistance bands… I could go on, but the pain is still a little fresh in my mind 😉 We were constantly provided with ways to either modify or increase the workout, which helped us personalize to our own levels.

Let’s talk about heart rate — StudioBPM gives everyone a heart rate monitor FO FREE before the start of the workout, so you can constantly monitor how hard you’re working by checking your level up on the screens.  At the end of the class, our instructor reviewed our heart rate and results, and explained how we progressed throughout the class — so helpful!

2. Music is EVERYTHING.

To quote the late great Bob Marley, “One good thing about music, when it hits ya, you feel no pain.”  This is exactly what we needed to bank on during the second part of the class: cycling.

Our instructor was part DJ, part light show technician, and all top-notch spin instructor.  We were shocked at his ability to multi-task, providing the ultimate cycling experience in 30 excrutiating and painful rewarding minutes 😉 We never got bored, and found ourselves dancing on our bikes for the greater portion of the class.  The club-like atmosphere definitely kept us going, and the constant change-up of resistance, speed, and positions kept our heart rate pumping!

3. Freebies are a nice bonus!

I mean, I get it… but it is a pet peeve when studios nickel-and-dime you for every amenity.  That’s why I love how StudioBPM offers towels, heart rate monitors, and lockers — all FREE.  Oh, and did I mention that there is GREAT childcare for only $5?! GOLD. PURE GOLD.

These three factors, plus the energetic environment, great variety, welcoming staff, knowledgeable instructors, state-of-the-art technology… need I go on?… will keep up coming back for more [as soon as we can walk again ;)].

See you at StudioBPM!

xx, Nicole + Hayley {LL805}
