The Perfect Central Coast Getaway

During the last week that my husband was out on paternity leave, we decided that we wanted to do something memorable before he headed back to work.  After a bit of searching on the HotelTonight app [genius concept, btw!], we settled on staying at The Cliffs Resort, located right between Pismo Beach and Avila Beach.

[hint: there’s currently a TravelZoo deal for this place, which includes a free upgrade!]

Also, perhaps in a moment of insanity, we decided to bring our dogs along, as well!  Decidedly outnumbered with two pups and a 3-week-old infant, we packed the car to the brim and headed on our way.

What we experienced when we arrived absolutely exceeded our expectations.

This was our room — hello, OCEANFRONT!  Also came with a huuuuge marble bathroom [complete with jacuzzi tub + bidet], a sitting area, a luxurious bed, and tons of room!

This hotel is so pet friendly — only $55 pet fee for the duration of your stay, no matter how many dogs, or how many nights!  They brought us dog beds, bowls, and treats, and there were pick-up bags in all of the grassy areas.  As you can tell, our dogs didn’t always use the pet beds, ha!

You are placed on the ground floor, which is a pet-friendly floor (and the rooms must be very sound-proof, because we didn’t hear another dog the entire time we were there).  The staff was so friendly, and the hotel came with some pretty sweet perks — like FREE valet parking!

After we set up our room, we leashed up the pups and put the baby in the carrier, and headed to happy hour at the hotel’s restaurant, Marisol (which was classy, baby-friendly, dog-friendly, delicious, and inexpensive!).

As you can see, the views were just terrible 😉

We loved this place so much, that we had happy hour here both nights! The first night was Margarita Monday [we loved the coconut margarita, duck tamales, and pork belly tacos!] and the next night was Tapas Tuesday [$5 glasses of wine, bacon wrapped dates, cheese platters, and other small plates].

Walking along the bluffs was our favorite part of each evening… wine in hand, of course!

During the day, we explored Avila and Pismo, both of which had tons of shops, restaurants, and wine tasting! Very dog- and baby-friendly, too 🙂

This was the perfect mid-week getaway, and with temperatures in the mid-70s, we couldn’t have asked for a better trip!  Luckily, the baby and the dogs traveled really well, so we definitely lucked out.  We left feeling refreshed and ready to face the rest of the week — and very glad that we got Graham out on his first travel experience!

What are your favorite places to visit in Pismo and Avila?
