Living in Southern California, you get a LOT of visitors. And living in Southern California, there’s a LOT to see and do. When you have visitors in town, it can be difficult to narrow it all down to just a few “must see” spots. We recently had Luke’s mom and sister in town from Wisconsin, and of course, high on their list of to-do’s was beach, wine tasting and shop.
So difficult to do in the 805, right?! HAHA not at all 🙂
Here’s a look at a few of our fave “go-to/must-see” local spots for out-of-towner guests:
First on the to-do list, beach. But not just any beach. Living in Agoura Hills, we’re super close to Malibu so we love to go to Point Dume; but when you can’t find parking for Dume, or just don’t want to try, we enjoy the very south end of Zuma (just north of Dume). It’s super quiet, tons of parking and you can walk along the pointe down towards Dume. Some other favorite beaches are Leo Carrillo, Ventura, Carpinteria and Refugio beach. What’s your favorite beach?
For food in Malibu, The Sunset is a great restaurant to take guests to. We also love Duke’s — they have great happy hour specials, pretty tropical drinks and awesome ocean views. Guests LOVE it.Malibu Farm on the pier is another must. Of course it has amazing ocean coastal views, but the farm-to-table menu is off the charts and the decor is to die for.
Really, any restaurant on the beach or pier are a hit for out-of-towner’s.
Next on the to-do list, wine.
Malibu Wines is always a lovely spot and super close to our home, but we also like to take guests a bit more north to one of our favorite 805 cities, Santa Barbara. Santa Barbara has it all, literally- shopping, gourmet restaurants, buzzing night life, gorgeous beaches, scenic hikes and of course, wine tasting. I mean, what else could a guest want?! 😉 The Funk Zone is our favorite place in SB to take friends and family. It’s so fun and easy – we love to walk around and discover new spots there!
We started at Oreana Winery. They have a great outdoor patio and since the weather in SB is pretty much always gorgeous, it’s a great place to wine taste outdoors. Next, we grabbed lunch at The Lucky Penny. The Lark is our absolute favorite restaurant for a gourmet dinner in SB and the Lucky Penny is actually on the same property, specializing in local, seasonal wood-fired pizza, salads and sandwiches — and they have the best cold-brew coffee! After lunch, we came across the SB Wine Collective. I’ll be honest, I was drawn in by the open, airy layout and modern, rustic decor of SB Wine Collective — oh, and the beautiful and delicious smelling Helena Bakery located inside! We had never been there before, but that’s the fun in walking around the Funk Zone! We’re always discovering something new 🙂Finally, Luke’s mom and sister wanted to shop. So off to State Street we went! And along the way, we came across the newly opened SB Wine Therapy on State Street. It’s a super cute spot with bean bags, art (see @WineArtistry on Instagram) and games!Needless to say, we continued our wine tasting and played dice games for over an hour! 😉 Overall, it was a lovely weekend and we had a blast showing Luke’s mom and sister around our favorite 805 spots!
