Over Memorial Day weekend, my mom and I hiked up to Lizard Rock for a scenic outdoor workout. We entered from Hill Canyon in Santa Rosa Valley (which we’ve posted on a few times now!), and you can also enter it from Wildwood Park in Thousand Oaks.
From Hill Canyon, you can head up the switch backs to the left of the entry gate. Luckily, it was a cool day — and of course, the earlier you head out, the better.
Here’s a couple reasons why we love Lizard Rock/Hill Canyon & Wildwood Park:
1. 360 views of the greater Conejo Valley
2. Dog-friendly trails
3. Great for hiking, running, & mountain biking
4. You can hike to a waterfall and a teepee
5. Peace & quiet — it’s never crowded [I’m looking at you, Runyon Canyon]
6. Challenging workout, that is fit for all levels
Here are some photos my mom took of me at the top of Lizard Rock — the views are beautiful! [Unfortunately I didn’t bring my Canon with me 🙁 A little difficult to hike with that thing!]
And when you really want to be ambitious, you can run to the top of Lizard Rock. No matter how you get up there, it’s a great way to get your heart pumping, breathe in some fresh air and enjoy some beautiful views.
And psst, don’t forget a nutritious post-workout meal! We met the rest of our fam at for brunch at one of our favorites, Jeannine’s Gourmet Food Hall at the Shoppes in Westlake. I, of course, ordered my favorites: an almond milk latte and the Power Scramble.
