The Old Place is a tiny cabin tucked away in the canyon, which gives it that extra special, quiet mountain charm. You would never guess you were 20 miles from LA! Located off of Kanan and Mulholland, The Old Place is nestled in between Troutdale and Cornell Winery (which I’d say is pretty convenient). As soon as you pull up to it, you’d think you were in the old wild west — or at least how I imagine the old wild west 😉 Some guests even rode up on horses!
It’s a small cabin — so small, in fact, that there are only five booths and three tables. For this reason, dinner is served at three specific times (5pm, 6:30pm and 8:30pm), one of which you must make a reservation for. But let me tell you, it is so worth planning ahead for it.
Recently, Luke and I wanted to treat my mom and dad to a nice dinner, so when we were thinking of special places to go, we immediately thought of The Old Place. We wanted not only a delicious meal, but somewhere that we could really enjoy the atmosphere and have a unique experience.
To start, we ordered a bottle of Cakebread Chardonnay (per my dad’s request), and since my dad absolutely loves clams, those were a must as well.
I’m not a huge shellfish eater, but these clams were delicious. The sauce was so flavorful — full of lemon and garlic, mmm!
For dinner, my mom and I split the Alaskan Halibut Special, Luke ordered the Oak Grilled Black Angus Sirloin and my dad got the Rib Eye Steak.
And yes, those are HUGE baked potatoes. You can get them loaded or with the toppings on the side. As you can tell, you can easily split any of the meals, and all are very well priced (and way too good to be true).A live band duo came in and played some classics by The Eagles, Beatles and Creedence Clearwater Revival. They were awesome — you can see how much my dad was enjoying it! 🙂
We had such a great time visiting with my parents and were so happy that we could finally be the ones to do the “treating”- they more than deserve it.
So if you’re looking for a unique brunch spot, a good steak dinner to impress your man, a romantic date night for your lady, or simply an escape from the typical city/suburban restaurants, The Old Place is it. We promise you will not be let down. Thank us later.

Cornell Winery is located right next door, so enjoy some wine tasting before or after your meal (or both)! There happened to be an art event going on when we were there which was pretty neat. The place was crowded and they had free wine tasting and apps, plus an auction. It made for a fun evening!
