Outdoor Movies [plus tips + tricks]

I don’t know what it is about the thrill of watching a flick in the great outdoors — something about it is so strange, but so fun at the same time.

Summer seems to be the perfect opportunity to watch a movie in a park, and although we’ve told you about big-time companies like Eat See Hear or Street Food Cinema that put on these events, there are quite a few local productions, as well.  Catch them before summer is over!

[hint: movies typically start after dark (duh) but plan on showing up a little early to score a good seat and set up your blankets]

Are you a first-timer to this whole outdoor movie business?  Here are some of our favorite take-along items and must-haves:

  • Blanket to sit on (preferably one with waterproof material on one side — condensation is for real, people!)
  • Blanket to put over your legs
  • Your favorite hooded sweatshirt
  • Low camping chairs (check the venue to see if these are allowed — and, if not, bring a small pillow to help prop up your head or to make sitting on the ground easier)
  • Cups and wine (covertly concealed in a water bottle 😉 — but, if they sell wine at the venue, support your local business and just buy a bottle, already!
  • Snacks — our favorites include popcorn, veggies and hummus, and sushi from Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods

P.S., hopefully we’ll see you tonight at Malibu Wines for their showing of Willy Wonka!  Stop by our blanket, say hi, and let’s sip wine together!
