How to keep the pounds off this Holiday season {Work it Wednesday}

November starts the season of impending holiday binging on Turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie which then leads to Christmas parties full of cookies, wine, and even more pie.  Now don’t get us wrong, we love a good holiday party {have you seen the Schussel’s Fakesgiving party!?!}, but all these delicious treats leave us feeling a little…well bloated and guilty.  But never fear, we have a fun, effective, and calorie torching workout for you courtesy of 3 Elements Lifestyle gym in Thousand Oaks.


We tried a class a few months ago and the sweating started pretty much instantaneously, even during the warm up! We hadn’t really known what to expect before arriving, other than the fact that we were promised  a) we would get a great workout, and b) that it would be fun.  Now normally people don’t put those two things in the same sentence, but at 3 Elements Lifestyle it is definitely true.


3 Elements Lifestyle is all about creating a healthy lifestyle through fitness, nutrition and recovery (hence, the “three elements”). This it isn’t just your typical gym with a bunch of machines that, let’s face it, you have NO idea how to use — but instead, it’s a place where you take a class that can help you become a better, healthier, and more balanced you.

We loved the friendly and supportive environment at 3 Elements, and everyone who realized that we were newbies (was it that obvious??) welcomed us immediately.  Thanks for all of the high-fives and encouragement, everyone!

Now a little about the class, because we are sure you are just as curious as we were about what we were getting ourselves into:

1. We started with a warm-up where we jogged, did high knees, bear crawls and other various short cardio/plyometric exercises to get our heart rates up and muscles warmed up.

2. Next, we did a circuit workout with six stations {think jump roping, cable extensions, side planks, TRX bands, and sit ups with leg extensions}.  With the clock/timer system, this was so easy to follow, and made sure there was no slacking! It kept you moving, kept me interested, and helped build endurance.

[BONUS: Our fitness coach Chad guided us through each move beforehand, giving several modifications from beginner to advanced — this workout is accessible to all fitness levels!]

3. After completing the stations five (yes, FIVE) times through, we were guided through a group cool down.

We couldn’t believe that an hour had passed that quickly — although anyone looking at us could tell by our red faces that we had definitely just worked out hard.

… and, okay, I’m not too proud to admit that I kiiinda felt like I was going to throw up when it was all over. That means I gave it 100{fd7f0a6624fbd2224f3c60e3404acbd2207eb416c38268e7e97265ebe361b912}, right?

In spite of the sweat dripping down our backs, we couldn’t wait to come back!  If you are looking for a group-motivated, encouraging, kick-your-butt workout in a non-competitive environment (cough, NOT CrossFit, cough), then I would hightail it over to 3 Elements Lifestyle.
