This Week’s Edition – Bastille Day! {eat. shop. play. explore.}

This week’s edition {eat. shop. play. explore.} is everything Bastille! Remember how useless cool it was to take French as a foreign language in high school?  Yeah, well, joke’s on you guys, because I’ve gotten to use my five years of formal French instruction.  Twice.

There is something about France that seems to call to pretty much every girl — the City of Lights, taking romantic walks under the Tour Eiffel while your sig. other wears a too-tight black t-shirt and a sideways beret, while speaking French poetry in your ear?

Paris! Bastille Week - LL805

Just me? K cool.

Good news though guys!  Even if you’ve never been “across the pond” to France, you’ve got the opportunity to fake it — enter: Bastille Day!  July 14 marks the anniversary of the beginning of the French Revolution — specifically, the “Storming of the Bastille” in 1789.

Ok, enough history — when do we get to eat crêpes and engorge ourselves with cheese and fine wines?!

Here is your line-up of Bastille Day fêtes, all entailing {eat. shop. play. explore.}:

 26th Annual Santa Barbara French Festival [Saturday July 12 & Sunday July 13th, 11am-7pm] :: Oak Park, 300 W. Alamar, Santa Barbara :: FREE admission

  • Dance, music, food, and arts & crafts — and audience instruction/participation! {more info here}
  • Proceeds benefit the Center Stage Theater and Speaking of Stories, two Santa Barbara non-profits

Ladyface Alehouse Club Francophone [Monday, July 14] :: Ladyface Alehouse & Brasserie

  • Ladyface has an active, year-round Club Francophone, for all people who love French culture and enjoy conversing in French — special meeting on Bastille Day @6pm!
  • Enjoy a live accordionist from 6-9pm, while sipping a glass of Guillotine Flemish red.

 Bastille Week at The Stonehaus [Sunday, July 13 – Thursday, July 17] :: The Stonehaus, 32039 Agoura Rd., Westlake Village

  • Champagne, french wine, champagne, and live music — the merriment begins at 10am on Sunday! {more info here}
  • Crepes available 4pm-8pm Monday – Thursday

We definitely suggest you check out the local Bastille events and then of course, there’s always the opportunity to host your own Bastille Day celebration (I mean, why not!?). Just grab some french wine, cheese, macaroons and play some french tunes — voila! you’re all set!
