Why We Love Carpinteria {And Why You Should Too}

Here at LocalLove805 we love cute beach towns, we love camping, and therefore we love Carpinteria.  This adorable beach town is less than an hour away from where we all live and one of our go-to spots for the summer. Ocean, sand, surf, cute town, quaint shops, fun restaurants… I mean, what more could you want??  And if camping isn’t your thing, you can also look into renting an adorable beach cottage or stay in a hotel! See there’s something for everyone!

Carpinteria is a very special place to my husband and I, because a little more than 6 years ago (?!?!) we got married there!

On our 2nd year anniversary, I commissioned our wedding venue/catering company, Rincon Beach Club, to re-create our wedding menu — because Brett was too busy dancing, visiting, and enjoying the night to try any of the delicious food (which, for some reason, has never been a problem for me – ha!).

Located 10 miles south of Santa Barbara, Carpinteria is a fun beach town with something for everyone.

eat {+ drink}:

  • Giannfranco’s Trattoria :: We were actually the first people to host a rehearsal dinner here, and they reserved the whole back patio for us.  It was absolutely GORGEOUS.  I still dream about the crab ravioli there – it is on my top 5 list of best things I’ve ever eaten.

  • Padaro Beach Grill :: The fish & chips are pretty ridiculous.  Plus, you can’t beat the ambiance — a firepit, umbrella-shaded picnic tables, a grassy lawn, and a view of Carpinteria Beach. Um, yeah.
  • The Spot :: A no-frills burger joint with a walk-up window that takes CASH ONLY [you’ve been warned!].  Great spot to grab some chili-cheese fries and a milkshake.  And be ready for a long line during peak season because this is a super popular (and delicious) lunch spot.

The Spot Burger Shack

  • Crushcakes & Cafe :: Yah, I ate a cupcake for breakfast here once.  Judge me.  You’ve gotta visit this place — they have flavors you can’t even wrap your head around.  We also love this place for breakfast, lunch, or a perfect latte or cappuccino (so pretty much ALL the time).

  • Island Brewing Company:: Local brewery with outdoor patio, conveniently located next to Carpinteria State Beach campground. They do not serve food, but are within walking distance to multiple restaurants, often have food trucks visiting, and also encourage customers to bring their own picnic — why not!?

  • Rincon Brewery:: We haven’t had the pleasure of visiting this new brewery yet, but it already has amazing reviews and we love a good local brewery!

  • Rincon Surf Shop :: Family owned & operated store with the something for everyone (bathing suits, dresses, wet suits, surf boards, shoes, jewelry…). You can always find that closet fix here – a few years ago, I found my favorite poncho here on super duper sale – I get compliments on it all the time.
  • Antique Shops:: We love all of the adorable antique shops that line Linden Avenue and have found some great treasures for our own homes here.

  • The Palms :: great place to party with the locals.  There’s live music [I can’t promise anything about the quality, but it gets people dancing, that’s for sure].
  • Biking and Beach Cruising:: Carpinteria is a great place to bike around town or on one of the many trails.  You definitely do not need a car once you get here and can get anywhere you want on a bike {which is also good for the environment and good for you!}.  In case you don’t have your own bike, you can rent one for the local bike shop Rincon Cycles.

  • Kayaking and SUP Paddleboarding:: There are so many great ocean activities to participate in at Carpinteria.  There are several local shops as well as a few in Santa Barbara with free drop off in Carpinteria!

  • Carpinteria State Beach :: duh. beach front campground. enough said. {check it out on our top 10 local campgrounds post}

Did we miss one of your favorite Carpinteria spots? We know there are so many more great places here so please let us know!

    Check out Jack’s Bistro and Famous Bagels right on the main drag. A great place to stop after a morning of biking around Carp!

    PeeBee and Jays for a great sandwich. “Chicken Dressed Up Like A Salad” is an office favorite.

    Don Roge’s for delicious (and cheap) tacos and a great salsa bar. Went on a “Taco Quest” through Carp and these came out the winner.

    And of course, Cork Tree for their french fries, wine and the recently discovered Guiness Coated Onion Rings. So good!

    When I was a kid, we would spend the day at the Carpenteria State Beach, then hit The Spot for lunch or dinner before heading home. One of my most cherished memories, and favorite places!
