Building Our Very First Home {Part 13}

Hardware. Lighting Fixtures. Again, not as easy as you’d think. I know, I’ve said that a lot during this whole process. And it’s true.

There’s just too many options and when you have a budget, you always tend to like the ones that are just a little bit too expensive. We ended up getting a lot of our lighting fixtures online and from Lowe’s – which had great prices. Our dining room chandelier from Ballard Designs and our kitchen pennants from Grandin Road (we actually bought these both before we even started the house!).white kitchen - open concept - stained island - dry bar - locallove805Here’s a look at the bedroom lighting fixtures. This is the secondary bedroom upstairs upstairs-bedroom lighting fixture - locallove805Here’s the jack n’ jill lighting fixture (we used the same light in both rooms) –bedroom lighting fixture - locallove805The master bedroom brass wall sconces (which I love!) and chandelier –IMG_5532 And the entry light…entry way light - lighting fixtures - locallove805Hardware is actually one of the few things that Luke and I disagreed on (I know, pretty lucky right??). At least we didn’t like polar opposites though. I love the look of brass or copper, especially in a white kitchen. Luke kind-of likes the look of it. He likes more of the bronze and darker tone hardware. So we came to a compromise after much debate (as most couples do;) and agreed on an antique copper finish for the kitchen.Conejo Hardwoods - local shops - westlake - LL805 - top knobs, hardwareWe went to Conejo Hardwoods in Westlake to look at all the finishes in person. They have really great finish carpentry and hardware supplies. Definitely recommend going there for hardwoods and flooring- they have it all! Plus, it’s LOCAL 🙂Conejo Hardwoods - Westlake - local shops - LL805Conejo Hardwoods - local shops - westlake - LL805 - top knobs, hardware , cabinet pullsDynasty antique copper knobs - LL805Another thing we discovered, copper finishes are expensive. #gofigure [Or as Luke says, I have expensive taste…] But don’t let that scare you, we found almost the identical finish as Top Knob’s antique copper by Dynasty so we ended up buying the Dynasty knobs online and used Top Knobs for the pulls since the price for those wasn’t as bad.copper hardware - white kitchen - top knobs - locallove805We weren’t crazy for the copper hardware on our stained island, so we decided to go with a flat black and used the same hardware by Top Knobs.copper hardware - stained island - locallove805stain island - stain dry bar - flat black hardware - locallove805We also used Top Knobs for the master bath, but we picked the patina rouge finish to match the shower and sink hardware and we choice the crescent pulls to go with all the arches in our bathroom. And that’s a wrap! Things are coming along quick! So quick in fact, that I’m weeks behind on my updates! :/ I’ll try my best to share more soon!
