Labor & Delivery Nurse’s Baskets {DIY Gifts}

On August 8, I gave birth to the most precious little guy, Graham Hunter — look how cute he is!

IMG_4437IMG_4437

I had one week of maternity leave before he arrived, and not gonna lie — I was BORED.  I know I will be eating my words soon, as life with a newborn is anything but boring, but I took advantage of this down time to make a gift for the nurses that I knew would be taking care of me (and Graham) very soon.

My husband is …

Another Kipling Home Remodel {Part 1}

So people probably think Mark and I are crazy for moving and remodeling a home, yet again (ICYMI, it’s our 3rd home in 6 years of marriage!).  Not to mention, we keep taking on these projects while I’m pregnant…and this time with a toddler in tow!  Yeah, I guess we’re a little crazy 😉

For some reason, every couple of years we get the itch to buy a fixer upper.  Even through the stress and chaos, there’s obviously something about it that we really enjoy. Although this time, I told Mark “we’re not moving again until we’re 80…or at the very least we better stay in this house …

Patriotic Party {Local Entrepreneur: Down Emery Lane}

Part of the fun at LocalLove805 is meeting new people with similar interests and discovering new local businesses. We recently discovered Down Emery Lane, a local party planning business and service based in the 805 area.

The founder, Jaclyn, reached out to us recently to share her story (as well as some adorable ideas for throwing a red, white & blue themed party — perfect for 4th of July!!).

So first, a little about Down Emery Lane from Jacyln:

The name came about as a play on the saying “down memory lane” combined with my daughter’s name, Emery. I started my Etsy shop in 2012 after …

How To: Create the Perfect DIY Baby Shower {DIY events}

As most of you know, our very own Nicole Schussel is pregnant with her first baby — baby Graham! I had the honor of hosting her baby shower, along with her sister-in-law, mom, and mother-in-law, at our new home this past weekend. I’ll be honest, the planning process was a bit stressful at times, but what isn’t these days, right?? It was more enjoyable and exciting than anything though. Especially all the crafting!

To begin planning, we got the guest list and found our invites. We chose a vintage airplane travel theme to go along with their nursery’s theme. We found a ton of adorable vintage airplane baby …

How to Host a Chicago Themed Birthday Party {DIY Events}

My husband was born in Mt. Prospect, IL and grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, right next to the border of IL (so he claims Chicago is his hometown, and I don’t argue with him on that. He is a Cubs and Bears fan, so that’s enough for me!). Why am I telling you all this? Because it explains the theme for the 30th birthday party I threw for him a couple months ago 🙂birthday party - family - friends - housewarming - #texidreamhome - Locallove805 - LL805birthday party - family …

How To: Host an Outdoor Movie Night (in your own backyard)

Being 7 months pregnant, my prime idea of a birthday party revolved less around nightlife options, and more around friends and food (#sorrynotsorry)!

I love going to outdoor movies [see my post here on how to do it right], but didn’t love the lineup or locations featured on my birthday weekend.  Obvi, that meant one thing: DIY time.

Thankfully I have a super-handy husband, who fashioned a movie screen out of some PVC pipe and a roll-down window shade from Home Depot!  This is such a great way to go, and made for some amazing picture quality.  Plus, it was waaaaay cheaper …

DIY Dinner Party on a Dime {Keep it Casual}

I love having dinner parties, both low-key and fancy — but, dietary restrictions and preferences often leave me scratching my head about what to make.

My favorite solution often includes something that can be customizable by each attendee, and given my current pregnancy cravings for Mexican food (okay, can’t blame it on the baby… I’m always craving Mexican food), I went with burrito bowls!

I recently did this for a group of college girls that I mentor — we had a little “goodbye” party before they headed their separate …

Carry-On Necessities {Airplane Kit DIY}

Yeah yeah yeah, I know this is a “local” blog, but sometimes we have to leave this area that we call Paradise, and check out the rest of the world 😉

By the time you read this, I will be winging my way to Maui for our 7th anniversary/babymoon (yes, I’m preggers — yayyy!).  And, Hayley is currently in South Africa with her hubby for a 2 1/2 week adventure + safari!  Needless to say, our team at LL805 has a serious case of wanderlust.

This post was originally inspired by our latest trip a few months ago, which involved a 12 1/2 hour long plane …
