It’s officially FALL! Not that we’re jumping on holidays too early, but… that means Halloween is right around the corner, and there are already a ton of events to help you get into the spirit! Whether you’re looking for events geared toward family, fitness, or fun, there’s something for everyone!
Okay guys, it’s CHRISTMAS CRUNCH TIME: 5 more sleeps until Santa comes!
It is so easy to get bogged down by the stress of shopping + to-do lists + gifting + holiday hullabaloo, that sometimes we forget our favorite parts of the Christmas season. These are usually the simple pleasures that stick out in our minds, flooding us with joy when we near this season next year.
In one last attempt to reign in some Christmas magic, we present (pun intended) to you our Christmas Season Bucket List, where we hope to spark some ideas for increasing tradition/nostalgia/excitement/hope/light in your lives!
When do you get your Christmas tree?
The day after Thanksgiving (every year, without fail) my parents would load up the car with all four kids, a big blanket, and a huge roll of twine, and head to a local Christmas tree farm. Once the first few notes of the Amy Grant Christmas album started playing, everyone knew it was officially Christmas tree time!
…alright, thanks …
Okay, it’s the same old story every year: you want to come up with creative gifts, you want to shop local, you want to choose products that promote sustainability and environmental responsibility… but you still end up grabbing something off of Amazon — right?!
No excuses this year! We’ve done the legwork for you by putting together our ultimate holiday gift guide, featuring local products + companies that will be sure to please any of your gift recipients! All that’s left to do is browse through this list, click, and swipe 😉

Big dinners and holiday parties is one of the reasons why I love this time of year. But we all know hosting friends and family can also be super stressful. Last year Mark and I hosted Thanksgiving at our new house and I definitely was stressed. We had just moved into our new home, had a new baby, and were hosting family from out of town. I was having major mom brain/sleep deprivation thanks ot my adorable 2 month old, so I had a vision of what I wanted to do, but no real plan.
And when I started laying out my generic plan of …
Friendsgiving… Fakesgiving… whatever you decide to call it, we are now approaching our 8th Annual Fakesgiving Celebration! I know, right??
We’ve come a looong way since October 2010, the inaugural Fakesgiving celebration at my parents’ house with about 10 of us in attendance.
Now, we’ve hit around 75 adults + 15 kiddos, and host it in our own backyard! It has definitely morphed into something bigger and better than we’ve ever dreamed, and we absolutely love this tradition every year (even though we now …
Okay, sorry about that ridiculous title — I do love some alliteration…! 😉
Fall means all things PUMPKIN (and of course a few other things from our fall bucket list, am i right??). Sure, it’s cheaper to grab one from outside your favorite grocery store, but going to a pumpkin patch brings around a whole new level of nostalgia. We know that not everyone is the red-roses-and-box-of-chocolates type of person — good thing there are tons of different ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day! Here are a few of our personal faves:
1. For the Adventurous:
RUNdezvous 5k Fun Run // win prizes, such as massages, dinner gift certificates, chocolates, and more, while having fun (+ getting a workout!) with your significant other! Malibu Country Mart Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt // follow the clues for your chance to win $4k in jewelry, prizes, and gift cards hidden around the MCM! This is a great way to work …
When the New Year comes around, I can’t help but feel nostalgic about everything that happened during the past 365 days. With the retrospective look, however, comes the reminder to look forward — making goals is one major way to ensure you’re getting to where you want to be.
As my wise dad says, “Aim at nothing, and you will surely hit it.”
Another fave is from an equally wise man, Albert Einstein: “Life is like riding a bicycle; to keep your balance, you must keep moving.”
So, whether you’re all, “2016 was the best. year. EVER.” or you’re like, “Let’s never speak of 2016 again,” …
