How to Make a Festive Tablescape {DIY}

Big dinners and holiday parties is one of the reasons why I love this time of year.  But we all know hosting friends and family can also be super stressful.  Last year Mark and I hosted Thanksgiving at our new house and I definitely was stressed. We had just moved into our new home, had a new baby, and were hosting family from out of town.  I was having major mom brain/sleep deprivation thanks ot my adorable 2 month old, so I had a vision of what I wanted to do, but no real plan.

And when I started laying out my generic plan of …

How To: Put Together the Ultimate Charcuterie Plate {featuring Boutique Wine Club}

So… I have a confession.

I. LOVE. CHEESE.  Of all kinds. Unconditionally. Head over heels. Wanna marry it. Obsessed.  {Phew, thanks for listening. I feel so much better with that out in the open.}

But, a man cannot live on cheese alone [that’s how the saying goes, right?].  A perfectly-balanced cheese plate needs more than just, well, cheese.  This is when the fancy term “charcuterie” comes in.

Pro tip: it’s pronounced “shar-KOO-ter-ee” — now you can sound very French and sophisticated. You’re welcome.

We wanted to …

How to Make [+ Achieve!] Goals in the New Year {2017}

When the New Year comes around, I can’t help but feel nostalgic about everything that happened during the past 365 days. With the retrospective look, however, comes the reminder to look forward — making goals is one major way to ensure you’re getting to where you want to be.

As my wise dad says, “Aim at nothing, and you will surely hit it.”

Another fave is from an equally wise man, Albert Einstein: “Life is like riding a bicycle; to keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

So, whether you’re all, “2016 was the best. year. EVER.” or you’re like, “Let’s never speak of 2016 again,” …

Fun Holiday Gift + Craft Ideas {DIY}

Trying to pull together some last-minute decor or gifts for the holiday season??

{Of course, this has never happened to us… we’ve never, ever waited until the final moment to get working on something we had been putting off since Thanksgiving… 😉  …amiright?!}

Here are some holiday crafts you can throw together with most of the items being from the dollar store, and whatever else you might have lying around your house.  Ok, you miiiight have to take a quick trip to a local craft store, but you can totally squeeze it into your busy schedule.

Homemade Ventura {local shop}

We love to support small, local businesses, especially ones that make and sell things as adorable as Homemade Ventura.  Homemade Ventura was started by stay-at-home mom (of two toddlers no less!) Jessica Needham. She was born and raised in Ventura and was inspired by the laid back, small town vibe. She started creating macrame wall art using modern, but simple designs.  You can check out her beautiful macrame wall art on her etsy shop here.

Jessica will also be hosting a macrame holiday workshop at MadeWest Brewery in Ventura.  Join her on December 6th from 6-8pm and for just $60 a person you …

Five Friday Faves {This Week’s Edition}

It’s the weekend and although we were getting really excited for fall with the cooler weather we were having and the PSL’s we were drinking, we don’t mind the late reminder of summer.  It will be a beautiful weekend to head outdoors and enjoy some of our Five Friday Faves!

1. Beer festivals and Oktoberfest events aplenty are coming to the 805 (yay!!).  All weekend long you can check out the California Beer Festival at Plaza Park in Ventura. There are several different events taking place this weekend along with lots of craft beer tasting, live entertainment, and food.  But hurry, this is a …

Vintage Airplane Nursery Reveal

In the 7+ years that we’ve been married, my husband and I have been fortunate enough to do some traveling.  One year ago today, in fact, we were in Marrakesh, Morocco in the middle of a geographically-insane trip that also took us to Moscow, Prague, Madrid, Lisbon, and Barcelona… I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

When we moved into our house 3 years ago, we wanted a fun way to remember all of the places we’ve traveled together — so, we went a little “big” and bought this awesome map from National Geographic.  We mounted it on the wall in our office (with …

Another Kipling Home Remodel {Part 2}

We are in the final home stretch of our remodel (read my Part 1 here) and as you can see someone is excited to be back in her crib.  Despite being so close to the end, this is the part that feels like it takes the longest.  It’s all the little things, touch ups, and finish work that can take a long time to complete.

We definitely have to give a big shout out to our contractor Avi from ARY Construction. When you are taking down walls, adding a bathroom, redoing electrical, etc. it is so helpful to have …

Another Kipling Home Remodel {Part 1}

So people probably think Mark and I are crazy for moving and remodeling a home, yet again (ICYMI, it’s our 3rd home in 6 years of marriage!).  Not to mention, we keep taking on these projects while I’m pregnant…and this time with a toddler in tow!  Yeah, I guess we’re a little crazy 😉

For some reason, every couple of years we get the itch to buy a fixer upper.  Even through the stress and chaos, there’s obviously something about it that we really enjoy. Although this time, I told Mark “we’re not moving again until we’re 80…or at the very least we better stay in this house …

DIY Dinner Party on a Dime {Keep it Casual}

I love having dinner parties, both low-key and fancy — but, dietary restrictions and preferences often leave me scratching my head about what to make.

My favorite solution often includes something that can be customizable by each attendee, and given my current pregnancy cravings for Mexican food (okay, can’t blame it on the baby… I’m always craving Mexican food), I went with burrito bowls!

I recently did this for a group of college girls that I mentor — we had a little “goodbye” party before they headed their separate …
