I love to be active and explore while on vacation, as I think most people do — unless you’re more the lounging, reading a book type, which is also fine (I guess;). Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about laying poolside and enjoying a few Pina Coladas (which the waiter so kindly brought over to me) … BUT, that kind of vacay only happens every so often, and after a day or two of lounging, I’m usually ready for some activity anyway.
I was recently camping at Refugio Beach (one of our family’s fave local campgrounds) and realized how many simply ways there are to incorporate exercise and/or …
We absolutely love supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs in the 805 area — which is one of the main reasons we started our blog back in April 2014! So over the next few weeks, we are taking time to share some of our favorite 805 entrepreneurs/businesses 🙂
Today we are speaking with Marianne Wilson Photography (who actually photographed our very own Hayley Texidor’s wedding in October 2012! You can see some of those photos here).
LL805: What ignited you to start your own photography business?
MW: In 2008 Marianne was finishing up Art school as Joe was just …
Part of the fun at LocalLove805 is meeting new people with similar interests and discovering new local businesses. We recently discovered Down Emery Lane, a local party planning business and service based in the 805 area.
The founder, Jaclyn, reached out to us recently to share her story (as well as some adorable ideas for throwing a red, white & blue themed party — perfect for 4th of July!!).
So first, a little about Down Emery Lane from Jacyln:
The name came about as a play on the saying “down memory lane” combined with my daughter’s name, Emery. I started my Etsy shop in 2012 after …
Your picnic basket is looking a little sad, sitting there in the corner of your closet. Don’t you think that it’s time it got out a little?
Good news, everyone — Summer Concerts are almost here!!
Here’s a round-up of some great places to pack a picnic dinner and wine, grab a big blanket, and hear some tunes while taking advantage of these balmy summer evenings. Singing along is strongly encouraged.
Nothing can make you feel more centered and stress-free than knowing you are saving money and getting healthy, right?
Every Sunday in May (May 1st, 8th, 15th, 22nd, and 29th) from 9:30-10:30, lululemon athletica and Kreation Organic are sponsoring free outdoor yoga! And helloooo, cherry on top: they will also be offering juice samplings, special in-store discounts, and weekly giveaways!

Considering the fact that we are having a SWEET multi-family garage sale this Saturday, we decided to reference our previous post for some tips and tricks to holding the perfect garage sale. This is the time for Spring Cleaning [and for saving up for those summer vacations!], so organize that closet and turn your trash into cash!

So, we all know that garage sales are a lot of work, but they can also be super worth it (if you do it right). My husband was not excited to hear …
1. Who’s hungry?! Don’t forget that this week (and next) is dineLA’s Restaurant Week, and Santa Ynez’s Restaurant Week isn’t far behind! We’ve highlighted some restaurants that are worth a visit (and in/close to the 805!) right HERE.
2. Speaking of food, a friend of mine told me about the
Did you know that you can join adult sports leagues through the Conejo Recreation and Parks District?? [The Fall Basketball League just started, but you can register for the Fall Soccer League now. Check out here for more deets!]
My husband and brother-in-law Luke (Hayley’s husband) participated in the men’s soccer league last year, after first playing a few pickup games at the Pepper Tree Playfield Park in Newbury Park. A couple of the guys had invited them to join the league so they thought they’d give it a go.
[And from the wife of a player, I can …
It’s what I like to affectionately call the “karaoke of the art world,” and it’s quickly taking the country by storm. It involves canvas and Cabernet, paintbrushes and Pilsner, and it’s coming to a “Girls Night Out” near you.
Intrigued? KNEW IT.
Last week, we had the good fortune of attending the Media Soft Opening night for Pinot’s Palette, an art-class-meets-bar experience that totally wowed us. Michelle and Amanda Green, who are adorable sisters and the owners of Pinot’s Palette, …
