Christmas Bucket List

Okay guys, it’s CHRISTMAS CRUNCH TIME: 5 more sleeps until Santa comes!

It is so easy to get bogged down by the stress of shopping + to-do lists + gifting + holiday hullabaloo, that sometimes we forget our favorite parts of the Christmas season.ย  These are usually the simple pleasures that stick out in our minds, flooding us with joy when we near this season next year.

In one last attempt to reign in some Christmas magic, we present (pun intended) to you our Christmas Season Bucket List, where we hope to spark some ideas for increasing tradition/nostalgia/excitement/hope/light in your lives!

  • Checking out Christmas lights in Moorpark, Westlake Village, and Camarillo (gotta check out the synchronized lights at 4903 Pathfinder, Westlake Village this weekend — don’t forget to bring donations for Manna!)
  • Decorating sugar cookies with the littles

  • Spending the weekend at Grandma’s house in Bear Valley, drinking hot buttered rum and watching for elk [H + T]
  • Decorating our Christmas trees with ornaments that we have collected from our travels, and reminiscing about the year
  • Westlake Promenade Tree Lighting Ceremony (this year with special musical guest Rachel Platten!)

  • Eating Christmas fudge + watching Elf after Thanksgiving dinner, to get to holiday season started ASAP [N]
  • Shopping local, especially down Main Street in Ventura — many shops are still open in light of the fires, so don’t forget to support them!

  • Busting out all the instruments — guitar, ukulele, piano, melodica, violin, flute, etc. — and playing Christmas carols in the living room on Christmas Eve (I come from musician parents, ha!) [N]
  • Skiing/Boarding/Snow Play in Lake Tahoe [N] and Montana [H + T]

  • Santa’s Cottage at Westlake Promenade — how good is this Santa?! haha!

  • Roasting hot dogs in the fireplace and eating clam chowder on Christmas Eve [N]
  • Making Christmas cocktails, like this Mistletoe Mojito + Christmas Mule from Hay’s Christmas party!

  • Watching Christmas movies — some of our favorites include, but are not limited to: Elf, A Charlie Brown Christmas, How The Grinch Stole Christmas [both versions], The Holiday, Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol [the one with George C. Scott], and The Family Stone!
  • Attending church on Christmas Eve and celebrating the four Sundays of Advent [if you’re looking to visit a church this Christmas Eve, there are tons of great ones out there — but you will probably see us at Anthem Thousand Oaks, Community Christian Church of Moorpark, or Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village!]

We are always collecting new traditions, so please comment with yours below! Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!ย  Be safe, be welcoming, be forgiving, and soak in all the Christmas love around you!
