You guys. I have 4 library cards.
I know. Nerd Alert.
But, sorry I’m not sorry — libraries are one of the best local resources that people rarely tap in to. Case in point: The County of Los Angeles Public Library.
The County of Los Angeles Public Library (COLAPL) system is a treasure trove of literary goodness. I mean, there are approximately 7.5 million books in its 86 library branches, spread out over 51 cities in LA County (that’s over 3,000 square miles!). But, enough of the dull facts – the point is, you most likely have one of these libraries in your neighborhood, so no excuses!
You live in Ventura County, you say? No matter – COLAPL membership is available to all temporary and permanent residents of California. And, it’s FREE [just make sure you return your stuff on time, ok?]!
Some of the MANY benefits of being a COLAPL member include:
· Checking out up to 50 books/periodicals/audio/visual materials at one time
· Placing up to 50 items on hold
· Printing 10 free pages per day on their printers
· Reservations for a computer terminal or study room
· Free WiFi at their branches
· Access to all academic databases and online resources
But, I’m just getting started.
Do you use an e-Reader (Kindle, iPad, nook, etc.)? Download an eBook, magazine, movie, newspaper, audio book, or whatever your heart desires, and it shows up straight to your device. Best part? After 21 days, it automatically expires – no late fees!
Get digital versions of some of your favorite magazines, like these:
[ok, I couldn’t resist — hedgehogs are the cutest. animals. ever.]
Illegal music downloads are a liiiittle 2004. Did you know that you can download five songs per week, for FREE? And these are for keeps – no takesies-backsies on these music files. Each Monday, you can return for five more [we’re talking real music, like Ke$ha and Pitbull, obvi.]!
Stay tuned for more features, resources, and perks for this community goldmine. After all, it is taxpayer supported (this means you), so you kiiiind of already paid for it. Get your money’s worth already!
You can also follow @LACountyLibrary on Twitter to stay updated on all of their events (see, libraries are kinda cool, right?).
Alright, enough reading this blog post — get your library card and start accessing this (did I mention FREE?!) local resource!
