What to wear… what to wear? It’s a constant struggle – especially in the case of a special occasion. The pressure is ON. But the moment you put something together that you absolutely love – now that’s a beautiful moment (and a great accomplishment at that!). I love collecting pieces and creating new outfits for myself. It’s so fun.
Just the other night my husband surprised me with a dinner date in Malibu. I didn’t know where exactly we were heading so that made things a little more difficult; but since the weather had been so nice, I knew that I wanted to wear something fun and spring-like instead of my usual date night go-to, black on black (which is always a great choice BTW!).
I started with the usual search through my closet, panic, tell Luke that I need new clothes, he ignores me or tells me that I have too many clothes, and then I begin my usual outfit brainstorm sesh.
It takes quite a few rounds, but after trying on a few dresses and not quite feeling it, I came across my white pants from Soto Boutique. When I pick out an outfit, it’s all about comfort. If I’m not comfortable, I’m not going to feel good. And the better you feel, the better you look!
After I decided on the pants, I tried on a few colorful tops but opted for the white on white look and paired it with a neutral tone sweater and heels. [Yes, heels. If you know me, there are very few occasions that I’ll wear stiletto heels, but a wedding or date night are two of them.] And then for the final touches… I threw on a chunky necklace, add some volume to your hair and voila! Date night outfit success if you ask me:)
Tank top from Nordstrom BP section (I love this top and got it in a few colors – it’s similar to a Free People top I’ve been eying but just couldn’t justify the price tag). Necklace is from TJ Maxx, heels are from a second hand shop and my purse was a Christmas gift from Coach (it was on sale!:).
Hope you enjoyed this post and better yet, got some inspiration for your next unexpected special occasion.
Don’t be bummed out about your closet wardrobe (I’m sure we all have way more than we need). Instead, try to take a deep breath, pour yourself a glass of wine, and begin the closet search because I’m sure you’ll find something wonderful in there! Get creative and let your inner-stylist surprise you!
