I’m sure many of you have driven by the Santa Barbara Polo Club just north of Carpinteria, but have never stopped – thinking it either wasn’t open to the public or too expensive to attend, just like I originally thought. Well, turns out we’re all wrong. And guys, attending a polo match is SO MUCH fun, especially on a beautiful sunny day in the 805! Not to mention, it’s such a good excuse to dress up (and wear that big hat in true polo fashion).
My husband and I were lucky enough to sneak away, sans kids, for a little day date and we wanted to do something new. I grew up riding horses and absolutely love being around them and my husband is a sports lover (aren’t most?), so we decided to visit the Santa Barbara Polo Club – and let me tell you, we are so glad we did!
I literally know nothing about polo so luckily upon check-in we were given a pamphlet full of all the details about polo- how a match consists of 8 chukkas lasting 7 minutes each, the rules of a match, how it’s played, how a team scores, etc. I was so impressed by the riders steering their horses all the while trying to hit a ball and score! And one of the girls that made several goals was only 12 years old! Talk about #girlpower!
Not only was the match fun to watch, but the food we ordered was delicious, as were the drinks. Oh, and did I mention that during half time they serve free champagne on the field during the divot stomp?! Definitely a highlight of our day! That, and getting up close and personal with a horse and rider on the field for the perfect photo op! 🙂
We had such an amazing time, and we could tell everyone else was as well. We noticed people their celebrating festivities like birthdays and bridal showers, and then others like us – just enjoying a day out on the polo field. It was such a unique and fun experience, I highly recommend it (not to mention tickets start at just $12 so it’s super affordable!). Again, the perfect day date.
Now is the time to attend a polo match – especially this weekend as it’s the tournament of the season kick off! Find out more here and be sure to tag us in your photos if you go – maybe we’ll even run into you!!
