How to Host a Chicago Themed Birthday Party {DIY Events}

My husband was born in Mt. Prospect, IL and grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, right next to the border of IL (so he claims Chicago isΒ his hometown, and I don’t argue with him on that. He is a Cubs and Bears fan, so that’s enough for me!). Why am I telling you all this? Because it explains the theme for theΒ 30th birthday party I threw for him a couple months ago πŸ™‚birthday party - family - friends - housewarming - #texidreamhome - Locallove805 - LL805If you haven’t had or heard of, Lou Malnati’s Pizza – well, I’m sorry. It is the BEST deep dish pizza in Chicago (don’t fight my husband on that either;). Thankfully, Lou Malnati’s delivers their pizzas anywhere in the US, Β soΒ that was an obvious must for Luke’sΒ birthday.LocalLove805 - Chicago themed party - Lou Malnati's Pizza- chicago pizza - birthday partyKnowing I was going to serve Lou Malnati’s Pizza, I decided to incorporateΒ a Chicago theme to the menu (along with some standard essentials πŸ™‚ –

  • Lou Malnati’s Chicago deep dish pizza (this was a surprise for the birthday boy!)
  • Chicago dogs (I referred to good ol’ Martha for some tips – recipe here. It’s all about the poppy seed buns (I made them myself since they were hard to find) and toppings. Our toppings included onion, relish, peppers, tomatoes and pickles – cut long ways #duh)
  • Chicago Mix Popcorn (I bought a few bags from Costco, but they also sell them at Target and some markets)
  • Salad (thanks to my mom – always have to have your greens!)
  • Cheesy Potatoes (thanks to my Aunt Angie – it’s her famous recipe:)

This was a semi-last minute decision, but I’m so glad I did. Usually we simplyΒ set up the full bar and let guests pour their own drinks, but since it was a 30th and our first party in our new home, I decided to go semi-big πŸ™‚ I found a local bartending company, Black Label Bartenders, and they were great! They shared a shopping list with me the week of the party andΒ worked with me to create a custom drink menu – it was super convenient! Luke’s a big whiskey drinker (and I like the opposite, vodka;).LocalLove805 - Black Label Bartenders - LL805 - local bartender - hire bartender - birthday party The featured birthday boy drinks were:
