[Local Entrepreneur Spotlight] Meet Dolly of Lilly James Co.

Meet Dolly of Lilly James Co., the first of our first featured vendors in the LocalLove805 Marketplace!

Dolly hails from Paso Robles (one of our favorite 805 getaways) and sews handmade products — specifically leather clutches, bags, keychains and baby goods. And they are A-DORE-ABLE.

Read on to find out how she turned her hobby into a passionate business, Lilly James Co. [warning: get ready to feel her warmth and be inspired]!

Hi, I’m Dolly 🙂

I was eight years old when my mother taught me to sew. We worked together with needle and thread on my great grandmother’s sewing table, a family heirloom that had witnessed many beautiful fabrics over the decades. I don’t recall what we made that day, but I do remember that it was the summer, and that I was happy. To this day, I’ve always known that I’d want to pass on that happiness, that internal energy to create something handmade and special, on to others.

Flash forward to 2012 when I started Lilly James Co., a specialty sewing business based in our beautiful hometown of Paso Robles, California.

Named after my children, my home-based shop specializes in handmade sewing projects made with love. In fact, these pieces are often crafted in between Play-Doh sessions with my daughter, volunteer days at my son’s classroom and Crockpot creations for the hubby.

It’s all a balancing act for sure, but whether I’m making a thoughtfully crafted baby blanket or a chic date night clutch, what started out as a family hobby has now become a passion that I’m delighted to share with you.

My love for creating one-of-a-kind pieces is what drives me to be who I am and what I do. Every. Single. Day. Thank you for being a part of that.

Now enough about me. Let’s get to the fun part where I make something you’ll love to call your own!

Xo, Dolly

And now, we got the chance to ask a couple of questions about Dolly and the 805 🙂

What is one of your favorite things about living in the 805?

Gosh, Where do I start? We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the world. We have so many activities that are a stones throw from our front porch. One of the biggest parts that I love living on the Central Coast is being able to raise my kids here. There is always something going on that is family friendly that we can enjoy together!

What is one of your favorite spots or things to do in your hometown of Paso Robles?

After living here for nearly a decade, we absolutely love calling Paso Robles “home.” There are so many wonderful things to do within our town. Some of our favorite spots are the Downtown Park, weather it be enjoying Concerts in the Park, strolling Farmers Market, or letting the kids play on the playground, you are always guaranteed to have a great time! Living in wine country, I am pretty sure it is a sin if I don’t mention our GREAT wine and exceptional restaurants. We like to take a picnic and enjoy the afternoon at one of the amazing wineries around.

And for anyone visiting Paso, where MUST they go?

I think when visiting our area it is great to know the history behind it. Pioneer Museum is a great place to see how Paso became such a great place. A couple of other places we enjoy taking out or towners is the River Oaks Hot Springs, Tin City, Ravine Water Park, and the Paso Robles Children’s Museum.

Fave coffee shop: Spearhead Coffee, hands down!

Fave restaurant/eatery: Fish Gaucho, Pappy McGregor’s, Joe’s Place, Kitchenette and Berry Hill Bistro!

Fave winery: We love Graveyard Vineyards, Rava Wines, Tin City Cider and San Liege just to name a few.

I mean, how inspiring and adorable is Dolly and her story about Lilly James Co.? We were immediately drawn to Dolly and her custom pieces, and are so SO excited to be able to share her and her work with you!
