The Perfect Getaway: Los Olivos {Part 2}

A few weeks ago a posted a little sneak peak of my quick birthday getaway to Los Olivos with my hubby, sans baby {believe me — it was hard to leave those chubby cheeks!}.  We had such an amazing time exploring the little downtown area and the local shops, eating some delicious food and of course tasting amazing wine and beer along the way.

We weren’t able to stay in Los Olivos because we booked this trip a little last minute so we ended up staying in Solvang which is only about a 10 minute drive away, if that.  There are also more options in terms of accommodations in Solvang compared to Los Olivos and you can also stay in nearby Santa Ynez!  But I would say, if you are able to stay at the beautiful Fess Park Wine Country Inn and Spa, you must! This hotel is absolutely gorgeous and is the perfect place to unwind and relax right in the heart of Los Olivos.  We will definitely be staying there next time around!

We were told by friends that we had to eat at Sides Hardware & Shoes.  Now, I know what you’re thinking– that does not sound like a restaurant — and that’s what I thought too! But don’t be fooled. They’re known for their bacon steak.  That’s right, bacon steak. (I never even knew that existed!) I ordered the Roasted Turkey Sandwich (with the ohso delicious bacon steak) and my husband had the Pastrami Sandwich.  I am salivating right now just thinking about our lunch there!  Oh, and I can’t forget to mention their homemade ranch!  If you’ve hung out with my family at all you know we love our ranch, and the ranch here was some of the best I’ve ever had.  So basically, you should definitely try out this restaurant when you’re in Los Olivos!

Of course after lunch we had to partake in some wine tasting.  Everywhere we went, we were surprised by how friendly and helpful everyone was. We asked for recommendations on where to go next and were never let down!  There are so many great wine rooms in Los Olivos — and we were only able to visit a few, but I definitely recommend:

 Kaena (we loved their Grenache wines)

Dragonette Cellars (we were told we had to try their Pinot Noir)

Saarloos & Sons (sadly we missed this one, but it’s super cute and they have cupcake tastings!)

Carhartt Winery & Vineyard (also super cute outdoor patio– thanks for the recommendation Los Olivos General Store!)

Lastly I of course have to mention Figueroa Mountain Brewery and the adorable Los Olivos General Store (where I could seriously buy everything — if only I had endless amounts of money!;).  My husband and I each did a tasting at Figueroa Mountain Brewery and loved it all.  It was our first time at this brewery and we were not disappointed.  In case you haven’t noticed, we really like our beer and can therefore be a little picky — but this local craft brewery exceeded our expectations.  [We are anxiously awaiting the opening at the Shoppes at Westlake — hopefully later this Spring!!]

Make sure you stop by Los Olivos General Store! I guarantee you’ll want to buy the entire store, like I did.  They specialize in art, home goods and locally made products. Plus, it’s in an amazing historic building that was once a gas station built in 1904 (there’s even an original gas pump still outside!).

We only stayed in Los Olivos for one night, but we absolutely will be back.  We had such a great time exploring this adorable little town.  Los Olivos is a great local getaway to do some relaxing and wine tasting in a beautiful setting. Have you ever been there? And if so, what are your favorite places? We would love to hear!
