We have the perfect getaway for you — so perfect, in fact, that I almost want to keep it secret. But we wouldn’t do that! Just keep it on the DL so all of LA doesn’t catch on to how awesome the 805 is 😉 JK!!! kinda…
Anyway, here’s the scoop –
You’ve heard us talk about our LOVE for Santa Barbara and camping a few times before, so here’s a little more.
Ocean Mesa Campground and El Capitan Canyon, both located north of Santa Barbara, offer something for everyone — the glamper and the camper! El Capitan Canyon has glamping tents and full-on cabins, while Ocean Mesa has RV and tent camping spots with a pool and store.
**LL805 Insider Tip: In the summer, you can make reservations for their “off-season” (which is now) for less than half the price! Not only is it much cheaper, but it’s less crowded and the weather is usually still amazing (I mean, come on, is there really an “off-season” in Southern California ?? 😉 )…My parents have an RV, so they set up camp at Ocean Mesa (BTW, that’s the view from our camping spot in the pic above). This was actually our first time staying there and we loved it. Definitely recommend it, and definitely coming back next year. The showers and bathrooms are super nice and clean, there’s an outdoor heated pool and spa, a store with food & all your camping necessities (coffee!!), a spa, a HUGE park and playground area (dog and kid-friendly) and Ocean Mesa is just a quick bike ride from the beach. It was great.
As you can see, the men especially loved the pool 😉
Tanisha, Mark and Reese, and our brother and sister-in-law (preggers at the time) and their two kids glamped in the El Capitan Canyon cabins. Each family had their own cabin with a bedroom, loft, bathroom, kitchen & sitting area. Their cabins were tucked away in the hills – we saw deer walking by almost every day! The kids had tons of room to play just outside the cabin. And as we’ve mentioned before, we love the store & market at El Capitan. The food is great!FYI this campground is a hot spot during the summer – families dressed in Patagonia and Uggs are everywhere. But during the February weekend that we went, it was nice and quiet. There were still a good amount of families, but nowhere close to the summer chaos. I definitely recommend checking El Capitan Canyon out at some point, if you haven’t already. They run promos for the glamping tents and cabins during off-season from time to time, so make sure to check on that!
Another plus to both of these “campgrounds”, is the close proximity to the beach, bike trails, Goleta and more. We even drove to our favorite Goleta spot, The Outpost, for Tanisha’s birthday drinks. LOVE that place. And on Saturday morning, we surprised Mandy with a baby sprinkle for baby #3 at another favorite, Bacara Resort & Spa.
There’s a bike trail from El Capitan State Beach to Refugio State Beach, and you can run/bike the entire loop – that’s our favorite exercise route when we’re there.
And look at these beauties we ran into! 🙂
So there you have it — the perfect local getaway with tons of options for accommodation and activities. No excuses now! 😉
Have you ever been to these local spots? Are you a glamper or camper?? [And yes, you can be both, because I think I am 😉 ]. Let us know in the comments below!
