Summer Outdoor Movies Series {date nights & local events}

Let’s get down to brass tacks, here: food trucks, live music, a cult-classic outdoor movie on a sprawling lawn, picnic blankets galore, and more hipsters than a Saturday night in Silverlake.  Fun, right?!

Put on your favorite flannel shirt, grab some friends or your date, and drive (or Metro!) into various 805 and L.A. locations for a cinematic experience under the stars that you won’t soon forget.

Now that these events have become all the rage during the warm summer nights, you’ve got your pick of locations, flicks, and aspiring bands that will keep you busy all summer long.

For an LA Summer Outdoor Movies complete list, you can check out Thrillist’s compilation here!

For Local 805 Summer Movie Series, you can check out our favorites listed below {note: not all of these are outdoor, but they are local}:

Not sure where to begin??

1. Buy tickets online.  These events occasionally sell out (especially the Cinespia events held at Hollywood Forever Cemetery), so grab some tickets a day or two [or a few weeks for popular movies] before — plus, they’re typically discounted and award early admission!  Tickets range from $10-$17, depending on regular vs. VIP admission.

2. Gather these must-haves:

  • Hoodie sweatshirt
  • Large blanket to lay on (or short lawn chairs, which must be used in reserved seating areas)
  • Pillows
  • More blankets to snuggle under
  • Picnic Basket full of wine, a corkscrew, plastic cups, some brews, and a few snacks
  • Dessert
  • Canine friend [check each event’s website for rules]

3. Show up early.  Sure, the movie doesn’t technically start until later, but a) you’ll get a better spot, and b) there are tons of crazy fun contests where you can win cool stuff!

4. Check out the food trucks.  There were so many to choose from!  My husband and I are both middle children, so this was a struggling point for us (“No, you choose.” “I chose last time.” You get the idea.)

We had such a great time, and will definitely be back again!  Have you been to one of these events?  What has been your favorite?

xx, Nicole {LL805}
