Big dinners and holiday parties is one of the reasons why I love this time of year. But we all know hosting friends and family can also be super stressful. Last year Mark and I hosted Thanksgiving at our new house and I definitely was stressed. We had just moved into our new home, had a new baby, and were hosting family from out of town. I was having major mom brain/sleep deprivation thanks ot my adorable 2 month old, so I had a vision of what I wanted to do, but no real plan.
And when I started laying out my generic plan of …
Friendsgiving… Fakesgiving… whatever you decide to call it, we are now approaching our 8th Annual Fakesgiving Celebration! I know, right??
We’ve come a looong way since October 2010, the inaugural Fakesgiving celebration at my parents’ house with about 10 of us in attendance.
Now, we’ve hit around 75 adults + 15 kiddos, and host it in our own backyard! It has definitely morphed into something bigger and better than we’ve ever dreamed, and we absolutely love this tradition every year (even though we now …
Luke and I just spent a recent weekend at Sequioa National Park for our 4 year anniversary… and it was awesome. If you haven’t been yet, or it’s just been awhile, I definitely recommend it. We were looking into Zion and Yosemite for our anniversary, but both were a little too last minute to plan (and a bit further distance), so we opted for Sequioa — which is just a 4 hour (mostly beautiful) drive from home!
So I am by no means a great cook, but one thing I can make is butternut squash soup. And I only say this because my husband told me so:) Thanks to Pinterest (yes, I actually made something that I found on Pinterest!) I found this delicious recipe for butternut squash soup complete with bacon… because as we all know, bacon makes everything taste better. Duh.
This recipe is from good old Martha Stewart, so you know it’s amazing and — believe me — it is pretty easy to make! I have a new baby so I’m not spending …
You’ve probably groaned at the sight of pumpkin-flavored-everything at Trader Joe’s, girls wearing UGG boots + yoga pants while sipping Pumpkin Spiced lattes, and the emergence of Halloween decor in stores everywhere… but let’s face it — fall is most definitely the best. season. ever.
Here are just a few of the things we are looking forward to this fall season… did we name any of your favorites?
Attend an Oktoberfest festival [Stonehaus’ Oktoberfest is this weekend!] Find the perfect pumpkin [Check out our post on the Perfect Pumpkin Picking Patches]
Okay, sorry about that ridiculous title — I do love some alliteration…! 😉
Fall means all things PUMPKIN (and of course a few other things from our fall bucket list, am i right??). Sure, it’s cheaper to grab one from outside your favorite grocery store, but going to a pumpkin patch brings around a whole new level of nostalgia. Here are some of our favorites that are going on in the 805!
Having married a man whom was born and raised in Lake Tahoe, it goes without saying that I have made many road trips from LA to Stateline, NV.
Growing up, I was not a fan of long car rides. I was the kid that kept asking, “How many more minutes until we get there?” and groaning at whatever answer I received. Of course, I wasn’t completely …

I’m sure you’ve seen those gorgeous macrame wall hangings on all of your fave ‘grammer accounts — and then you go to buy one, and you’re like, “hi, NOPE.”
Thank goodness for Jessica Needham, entrepreneur and girl boss of homeMADE Ventura! She is totally rocking this DIY craft that we now love, and taking the 805 by storm with her own macrame workshops! She invited us to stop by and give it a try this month… and now, we’re hooked. Our workshop was in the beautiful barn at Camarillo Ranch, and provided the prime environment for a beautiful summer Sunday.
