The Season for Giving Back {#LL805Thanks Series}

November seems to be a month that inspires people to remember what they are thankful for, as well as to give back to their community or favorite non-profit. Not only are we having our own thankful season with our hashtag #LL805thanks, but I’m sure you’ve also seen the Instagram and Facebook “30 days of Gratitude Challenge” — and possibly have taken part in one yourself! This is really is a simple way for us to recognize how fortunate we are and how much we have to be thankful for throughout the month, and hopefully beyond.

The latest issue of 805 Living magazine is titled “Giving Back” and they have a great article (page 70) highlighting local charities and non-profits that you can donate your money and/or time to, as well as to help spread awareness to their wonderful causes.

local love giving back

There are so many different ways to volunteer and give back to our community — it’s almost impossible to list all of them in this post!  But, if you are looking for something in the Conejo Valley,  head to this website for an extensive list of all the available volunteer opportunities.

As we’ve mentioned before, the last several years we have ran in the Conejo Valley YMCA Turkey Day Dash 5k.  A portion of the proceeds raised from each entry goes back to the Conejo Valley YMCA.  So, not only are you having fun (believe us, it really is!) and burning calories before your big Thanksgiving day meal, but you’re also donating to a great local non-profit organization.

The Ventura County Rescue Mission offers a special Thanksgiving Day meal for those in need.  You can volunteer your time if you don’t have plans for Thanksgiving, or if your whole family wants to join in even better! You can also donate money– did you know that only $20.50 provides 10 Thanksgiving day meals??

Enegren Brewing in Moorpark is also hosting their own Thanksgiving Food Drive for the month of November.  It’s their 3rd year and they’ve partnered with the Moorpark Food Pantry. Plus, as a little incentive, they are offering discounts to those that bring in non-perishable and canned goods.

Want to organize your own way to give to a favorite charitable organization?  Nicole used her FakesGiving event to gather household supplies, clothing, and hygiene items to donate to Lighthouse for Women & Children, a shelter for victims of domestic violence. Ask each of your guests to bring something to donate, and voilà — your party has now supplied resources for a family in need!

Don’t forget to post pictures throughout November of what you’re thankful for and/or how you are serving or giving back to the community by using our hashtag #LL805thanks.  We will be reposting our favorites for all of our followers to see, and we will also be offering giveaways at the end of the month! It will be a great opportunity for you to sit back, relax and think about what your grateful for…even if just for a minute.  And every Thursday we will be posting on our social media accounts what we’re thankful for this holiday season.

As we said, these are just a few of the options to give back this season, and we know there are so many more along with so many needs in our community.  Please let us know if we missed any so we can make share with everyone else.

Hope you all have a thankful and grateful week, month, and beyond!
