Work it Wednesday : SPN Pilates {Calabasas}

Our generation seems to be leaning more and more toward a healthy and active lifestyle, and the 805 is right on track.  With the ever-growing abundance of locally-sourced and organic eateries, community races and activities, and privately-owned niche fitness studios, there are so many accessible opportunities for us to participate in this health conscience shift. And LocalLove805 is all about it!

We are especially fond of the magnitude of fitness studios in the Conejo Valley area; and, in case you’re not yet aware, I buy a lot of local deals — primarily fitness classes. The gym just wasn’t cutting it for me anymore — I was bored of doing the same routine, not feeling a difference, and losing motivation (caveat: I did not go to a fancy gym with stellar classes — that’s a little out of my price range, sadly).

So, after ending my gym membership, I began my journey of trialing fitness classes in the area – mostly purchases via Groupon, LivingSocial, Conejo Deals (of course, it’s the best!), and also by word-of-mouth.

Since then, I’ve tried a number of fitness studios and various workout regimes, and have found some definite favorites – which I will make sure to share with you here on LocalLove805. Most recently, my sister and I tried SPN Pilates in Calabasas. It’s located at the newer shopping center right off the 101 at Lost Hills. This was my 2nd pilates reformer class, but first time at SPN, and let me tell you, it was intense (in a very good way). My body was shaking like never before and I was sore for days. It was awesome 🙂

I was a bit intimidated walking into the studio and seeing the massive machines, but our instructor was super helpful.  She gave my sister and I a quick walk-through on the machine and warmly welcomed us to the class. I also appreciate when instructors provide pointers on technique and assist you with your form in an encouraging way- and she definitely did that without making you feel embarrassed by any means.

During the 55 minute class, there were moments when my muscles were shaking uncontrollably and I seriously debated giving up; but the combination of the music and the instructor’s guidance (& the women of all ages around me straight working it!) really kept me going. Honestly, it’s a very pivotal reason as to why I love fitness classes. The motivation and energy is amazing- and not something you can get at your average gym or when you’re running solo everyday in your neighborhood.

Even more, the feeling after you’re done with the class makes it so worth it. Especially when you take the morning classes- what better way to start your day. You feel so accomplished and it truly effects your perception all day in a positive way.

Why we love it: Friendly and motivating staff and members, lockers for your goods and such an effective workout.

I, for one, am all about getting more for my money — high intensity, full body workouts. I like to sweat and feel sore afterwards-  it’s my way of knowing that I made myself really work hard (is that weird??).

BONUS: SPN offers free demo classes for first timers! [Check out their website]

PS – SPN Pilates also offers cycle classes which of course, we tried and loved as well! We will be posting more about that class soon!

What’s your favorite workout regime or studio? Please share with us! We’re always looking for more 🙂 #spreadthelove
