How To Stay On Track With Your Fitness Goals

How is it February already!?! It seems like just yesterday we were making our new years goals for the year.  Yeah remember those goals you made? Was fitness one of them? And are you maybe already slacking a little bit {don’t worry us too!}? Today we have some tips for keeping your fitness goals all year long (ok at least longer than the month of January).

1. Make a plan.  Have you heard that saying “fail to plan, plan to fail?”  Well it’s true.  Scheduling your workout ahead of time (in your planner, phone calendar, or setting a reminder) can help you to stay on track with your goals.

2. Enlist a work out buddy.  It’s so much easier to stick to your fitness goals when you have an accountability partner.  So whether it’s your friend, spouse, or family member hold each other accountable and remind each other of why you started this fitness journey and what you are seeking to accomplish.  Plus sweating with a friend is always more fun!

3. Prep beforehand.  The night before, set out your work out clothes, shoes, make a playlist, or whatever you need to do to prepare ahead of time for your workout.  That way you have no excuse.

4. Buy some cute workout clothes.  I totally believe this works.  If I buy some cute new workout clothes I want to sweat in them.   You don’t have to spend a lot of money, but getting something new to wear that fits well is always a great motivator.

5. Keep your body guessing.  Switching up your workouts is a great way to keep you motivated to workout.  We love trying new workout classes {Hayley and Nicole both have ClassPass} and there are so many great fitness studios in the 805 offering a wide range of classes.  Since the 805 is beautiful year round you can also head outdoors for trail running, hiking, mountain bike riding, kayaking, etc.

6. Stay hydrated and refuel.  It is so important to drink a lot of water and to eat protein after a workout so that your body can refuel.  We love SunLife Organics after a Burn60 class or an Erewhon smoothie after an SPN Pilates or cycle class.  Making flavored water ahead of time is also a delicious way to help you stay hydrated after a workout.

7. Get your rest.  It also just as essential to get your rest.  If your body is feeling sore and tired take a rest day, do a stretching routine, or a simple yoga routine.  And getting an average of 8 hours of sleep important too.

We hope these tips help you stay on track with your workout goals and if you have a few of your own please do share!
