Our Favorite Local Brunch Spots

Not to sound too basic, but…

we LOVE brunch.

Like, borderline obsessed. And what’s not to love? Delicious, insta-worthy food. Acceptable day drinking, in public. Catching up with good friends. Beautiful, outdoor patios [our favorite, and — thanks to the 805 — it’s almost always patio-sitting weather :)]!

Today we’re sharing some of our fave brunch spots in the 805.  But friends, this is a two-way street — so if you have a fave brunch spot or two that we haven’t listed, please share in the comments below 🙂

Local Christmas Tree Farms {conejo valley + ventura county}

When do you get your Christmas tree?

The day after Thanksgiving (every year, without fail) my parents would load up the car with all four kids, a big blanket, and a huge roll of twine, and head to a local Christmas tree farm.  Once the first few notes of the Amy Grant Christmas album started playing, everyone knew it was officially Christmas tree time!img_9686img_9686

…alright, thanks for letting me have …

Your Guide to Local Farmers Markets

Spring time means longer days, beautiful flowers, sitting on porches and eating farm fresh foods. Don’t you agree!?

And luck for all of us, the Conejo Valley and surrounding 805 area are home to an abundance of farmers markets. We didn’t even realize how many there really were until we started researching – which just adds to the ever-growing reasons of why we love living in the 805. We’re so fortunate to have access to numerous farms who provide their locally grown produce, honey & jams, eggs, meats, nuts, flowers and more to our local farmers markets. Pretty amazing, right!?

So now to the important questions, when and where can you find your nearest farmers market? Well, …

Ocean Views + BYOBooze {Malibu Seafood}

::: originally published August 28, 2015 :::

Okay, so, it was one of those Fridays when you just need a serious end-of-week decompression, so Brett and I set out for some ocean views and seafood.  As I was sitting in Friday PCH traffic ::blegh:: I started searching for a new spot with coastal views and a reasonable price range (sorry not sorry, Nobu).

Suddenly, I remembered Malibu Seafood — don’t ask me how, but I think it was a Divine intervention. I saw that it was BYOB (score!) so I pulled off at the Malibu Canyon Ralph’s, grabbed a sixer of Blue Moon Summer …

Best of… Cool Treats for a Hot Summer Day {local eats}

Anyone else feeling the summer heat? Don’t you worry because we’ve got a few of our favorite spots for a refreshing, cool treat in the Conejo Valley (plus, one from the Bu:)! Check them out below and please let us know if we missed your favorite!

1. SweetXO {Agoura Hills & TO Mall} ::  This adorable {and extensive!} fro-yo/macaroon/gift/clothing/baked goods/amazing one-stop shop pretty much blows my mind.  More toppings and flavors than you can wrap your fro-yo-loving head around.  You can even get your dessert with warm cobbler, candied pecans, pie, cookies, or brownies — whaaaat?!  I love to grab a large cup of Dole Whip (YES, …

The Only Time You’ll *Really* Crave a Salad {Greens Up!}

True story: when I first heard that Greens Up! was coming to my area, I screamed… at. work. (not my finest moment)

IMG_1213IMG_1213

When Brett + I lived in Santa Monica, our apartment was spitting distance from this place on Montana Ave — and we took advantage of its close proximity weekly.  This fast-casual joint that serves salad only is anything but boring.

The Jarvis salad {romaine, roasted turkey, croutons, tomato, smoked bacon, Swiss cheese, bleu cheese, and a roasted garlic dressing} is …

A Secret Garden Escape {local trails}

So far, we’ve had unseasonably warm days (thanks to El Nino), but it has cooled off just a bit this week which we are so thankful for. Cooler weather means time to enjoy the outdoors. Plus, with all this talk about El Nino rain storms coming Jan – March, we better get outside STAT before we’re all flooded in! Ok, that was a little dramatic, but you get the point!;)

One of our favorite local trails/outdoor activities is visiting the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden in Thousand Oaks off of Gainsborough Road.  It really is a secret garden escape – it’s quite the hidden gem. If you’ve never been to the …

Join a Local Sports League – more fun, more friends! {local fitness}

Did you know that you can join adult sports leagues through the Conejo Recreation and Parks District?? [The Fall Basketball League just started, but you can register for the Fall Soccer League now. Check out here for more deets!]

My husband and brother-in-law Luke (Hayley’s husband) participated in the men’s soccer league last year, after first playing a few pickup games at the Pepper Tree Playfield Park in Newbury Park. A couple of the guys had invited them to join the league so they thought they’d give it a go.

[And from the wife of a player, I can …
