A Date Night at the Theatre

It can be easy to get in a rut when it comes to date night.  We can easily find ourselves going to the same restaurant or seeing yet another movie, because that’s what we’ve always done and it doesn’t take much thought or planning.

But we challenge you to change that this weekend.  We are lucky enough to have the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks — one of the largest performing arts centers between Los Angeles and San Francisco. There are more than 400 performances annually, including Broadway musicals, dance companies, popular entertainers, concerts, and more!

Ocean Views + BYOBooze {Malibu Seafood}

::: originally published August 28, 2015 :::

Okay, so, it was one of those Fridays when you just need a serious end-of-week decompression, so Brett and I set out for some ocean views and seafood.  As I was sitting in Friday PCH traffic ::blegh:: I started searching for a new spot with coastal views and a reasonable price range (sorry not sorry, Nobu).

Suddenly, I remembered Malibu Seafood — don’t ask me how, but I think it was a Divine intervention. I saw that it was BYOB (score!) so I pulled off at the Malibu Canyon Ralph’s, grabbed a sixer of Blue Moon Summer …

A Budget-Friendly Romantic Date Night in Malibu Canyon {it does exist}

I know, I know — Saddle Peak Lodge is hardly aligning with our mission statement of “ballin’ on a budget” …or is it, actually?

IMG_9009

This is a place that I’ve always wanted to go [once my “money tree” started bearing fruit].  But, good news, guys — they’ve got HAPPY HOUR and a Supper Special!

Last year, Brett + I decided to have a late Valentine’s Day celebration.  We made resos on Open Table for 5pm, so we could make sure not to miss the sunset.  We both ordered from the Supper Menu, which is available on Mondays + Tuesdays …

The Perfect Date and a true Hidden Gem {local eats}

I know, I know. Topanga Canyon??? The valley? And the road is sooo windy. Well, hear me out. Inn of the Seventh Ray is one of the most quintessential restaurants I’ve been to in the area. It is the perfect venue for a special event, such as a Bridal or Baby Shower, and an idyllic spot for a romantic date. I’d say it’s definitely worth the trek.

My first visit to the Inn was for my sister-in-law’s Baby Sprinkle (it was her second baby, hence the sprinkle), and oh.my.gosh was I in heaven. It’s the cutest place in the most picturesque setting — tucked away in the …

Best Kept Secret: The Old Place & Cornell Winery {Agoura Hills}

The Old Place is a tiny cabin tucked away in the canyon, which gives it that extra special, quiet mountain charm. You would never guess you were 20 miles from LA! Located off of Kanan and Mulholland, The Old Place is nestled in between Troutdale and Cornell Winery (which I’d say is pretty convenient). As soon as you pull up to it, you’d think you were in the old wild west — or at least how I imagine the old wild west 😉 Some guests even rode up on horses!

Five Friday Faves {Valentine’s Edition}

Love is in the air (as in, I LOVE 3-day weekends!) — can you feel it, or are you mostly just feeling the sun beating down on the glorious 805? {Whatevs, El Niño}

Whether you are head-over-heels with your S.O., or just mostly in love with pizza and Netflix, there is something for everyone to lovingly embrace this weekend.  [Also, PSA: ObamaJam is coming at you this weekend, along with a double dose of traffic thanks to the LA Marathon.  So, pretty much, just stay in the 805 and you will be juuuuust fine :)]

Girasol: The Restaurant You NEED to Know About {Studio City}

Excuse us while we emerge from our food euphoria that we experienced at one of the valley’s newest and greatest hot spots of a restaurant …

GIRASOL.

Girasol Restaurant 3

Absolutely worth the drive to Studio City, Girasol is a farm-to-table concept that is focused on Chef CJ Jacobsen’s interpretation of California cuisine through a refined, hyper-local and produce-driven menu.  Plus, he was on Top Chef which is pretty amazing in it of itself!

We took one for the team and tried out pretty much everything on their seasonal menu.  It was a labor of love, but we’ll do just about anything for our …

Five Friday Faves {This Week’s Edition}

Al Mulino Eatalian Bakery and Bar in Westlake Village has gotten recommended to me by, like, five different people over the past few weeks… so I think I definitely need to make the trip over there this weekend.  Apparently, the pizza is to die for and they will keep you coming back for the pastries, too.

Outdoor Movies [plus tips + tricks]

I don’t know what it is about the thrill of watching a flick in the great outdoors — something about it is so strange, but so fun at the same time.

IMAG0701

Summer seems to be the perfect opportunity to watch a movie in a park, and although we’ve told you about big-time companies like Eat See Hear or Street Food Cinema that put on these events, there are quite a few local productions, as well.  Catch them before summer is over!

[hint: movies typically start after dark (duh) but plan on showing up a little early …
