Road Trip up Hwy 395 [local getaways]

Having married a man whom was born and raised in Lake Tahoe, it goes without saying that I have made many road trips from LA to Stateline, NV.

Growing up, I was not a fan of long car rides.  I was the kid that kept asking, “How many more minutes until we get there?” and groaning at whatever answer I received.  Of course, I wasn’t completely miserable the whole time — I loved singing along with my three siblings to James Taylor, The Police, and Garth Brooks [I know, eclectic] and …

The Perfect Central Coast Getaway

During the last week that my husband was out on paternity leave, we decided that we wanted to do something memorable before he headed back to work.  After a bit of searching on the HotelTonight app [genius concept, btw!], we settled on staying at The Cliffs Resort, located right between Pismo Beach and Avila Beach.

[hint: there’s currently a TravelZoo deal for this place, which includes a free upgrade!]

Also, perhaps in a moment of insanity, we decided to bring our dogs along, as well!  Decidedly outnumbered with two pups and a 3-week-old infant, we …

A sunny day date escape {Point Dume, Malibu}

Summertime means long nights and lots of beach days. One of my favorite local beaches is Point Dume in Malibu. Surprisingly, even having grown up in Thousand Oaks, I hadn’t been to Point Dume until last year (I know, I know. WHAT!?). I’ve been all over the coast to countless beaches, but for some reason, Point Dume was never on the list of go-to’s. But I’ll tell you what, it is now and here’s why –

Point Dume - LL805For our day date, we headed out early to try and miss most the LA beach traffic (duh), but also because …

A Classic Day-cation Escape {Santa Barbara}

Our family is heading up to Santa Barbara this weekend for brunch at the Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore and I could not be more excited to enjoy the amazing view and eat some (ok a lot!) delicious food! Read below for Hayley’s recent post about her day-cation escape in SB.

Always the one to snag a great deal {especially in support of the 805!}, Luke and I bought the Travelzoo deal for Unlimited Breakfast for Two at Bella Vista at Four Seasons Resort The Biltmore Santa Barbara  — and let me tell you, it was so worth …

Too Fresh to Forget :: A Farm-to-Table Experience with Ocean Views

I recently went to Malibu Farm again {thanks to this gorgeous summer-like weather we are having right now!} and fell in love again– and so did Reese!  I mean the food, the ocean views, the adorable decor, and now they have expanded and added a full restaurant and bar as well as as Espresso Bar at the beginning of the pier.

A Favorite Caffeine Fix: BeanoVino {Newbury Park}

There’s really nothing better than a cute little coffee shop that serves delicious lattes, invites you to sit in a comfy over-sized chair, and use their free wifi… until you discover they also serve wine.  So now you’re only dilemma is what to order. Coffee. No, wine. No… coffee {I mean, it’s only 11 AM so I guess it’s coffee ;)}.

Those are just a few of the reasons why we love BeanoVino in the Dos Vientos Ranch community of Newbury Park, located in their Village Center.

It may be a little out of the way, but it really is the perfect place to …

A Secret Garden Escape {local trails}

So far, we’ve had unseasonably warm days (thanks to El Nino), but it has cooled off just a bit this week which we are so thankful for. Cooler weather means time to enjoy the outdoors. Plus, with all this talk about El Nino rain storms coming Jan – March, we better get outside STAT before we’re all flooded in! Ok, that was a little dramatic, but you get the point!;)

One of our favorite local trails/outdoor activities is visiting the Conejo Valley Botanic Garden in Thousand Oaks off of Gainsborough Road.  It really is a secret garden escape – it’s quite the hidden gem. If you’ve never been to the …

::: ::: ::: ::: :::

I am a huge ‘breakfast person.’  In my opinion, it’s the best and most important meal of the day.

When my husband and I lived in Newbury Park, I was on the hunt for a local breakfast café  — and luckily, we stumbled upon …

Pet Rescues {local resources}

After a few months of searching around, we are proud to announce a new resident of our home.

Welcome to the family, Cali!

Cali joins our little family as dog #2, little sister to our 7-year-old mini Australian Shepherd, Kiva.  While my mom would have much preferred a grandchild, she got another granddog, instead 🙂 Isn’t she so freaking cute?!

We found her on PetFinder.com, which is a wonderful resource that consolidates animals up for adoption in your area, given certain criteria that you can pick.  Dogs, cats, birds, horses, rabbits, reptiles… you name it! Personally, I wanted …
