Butternut Squash Soup {DIY Recipe}

So I am by no means a great cook, but one thing I can make is butternut squash soup.  And I only say this because my husband told me so:)  Thanks to Pinterest (yes, I actually made something that I found on Pinterest!) I found this delicious recipe for butternut squash soup complete with bacon… because as we all know, bacon makes everything taste better. Duh.

This recipe is from good old Martha Stewart, so you know it’s amazing and — believe me — it is pretty easy to make! I have a new baby so I’m not spending …

Best of… Cool Treats for a Hot Summer Day {local eats}

Anyone else feeling the summer heat? Don’t you worry because we’ve got a few of our favorite spots for a refreshing, cool treat in the Conejo Valley (plus, one from the Bu:)! Check them out below and please let us know if we missed your favorite!

1. SweetXO {Agoura Hills & TO Mall} ::  This adorable {and extensive!} fro-yo/macaroon/gift/clothing/baked goods/amazing one-stop shop pretty much blows my mind.  More toppings and flavors than you can wrap your fro-yo-loving head around.  You can even get your dessert with warm cobbler, candied pecans, pie, cookies, or brownies — whaaaat?!  I love to grab a large cup of Dole Whip (YES, …

Not sure if you have tried Mouthful Eatery in Thousand Oaks, but if you haven’t – you must! My husband and I have gone there a couple of times and love it. Check out my blog post here for more details.  Their food is amazing and right now they are offering a free side, dessert, or lemonade when you purchase a $25 gift certificate.  So basically you can grab a yummy lunch, buy some gift cards for family and friends and get a little treat for yourself at the same time!

Camarillo’s Bistro 13 {local.eats}

Can you believe the weekend is already over and that it’s Monday? Are you not in the mood to cook tonight like me? Then you should head over to Bistro 13 in Camarillo for some delicious Italian food. My family has been going to Bistro 13 in Camarillo for years (we even went there back when it was named Pastabilities, which we still tend to call it).  It is one of our favorite Italian restaurants in the 805 and we love that it is a local family run business.  Not only is the food amazing, but the staff is super friendly and the …

2014 FIFA World Cup {local eats & drink specials}

In case you didn’t know, today is the first United States World Cup game against Ghana at 3pm!!  Even if you aren’t a huge soccer fan (like us – shhhh), it’s still really exciting to cheer on the U.S. team.  Last World Cup we went out to watch a few games and ended up best friends with all our fellow fans – we were cheering and high-fiving each other every time the U.S. scored a goal.  Needless to say, if you don’t have any plans to watch the game, we strongly encourage you do (trust us, it’s really fun)!

So if you are looking for a place to cheer on your …

Jump start your day – Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie {DIY recipe}

It’s a Monday morning, and after a weekend of indulging, sometimes you just need that extra health boost to start your day, err week. 😉

A few years ago, my husband had to take a nutrition course during his graduate work toward becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner.  So, he comes home one day and tells me that a) we aren’t getting nearly enough fruit in our diet, and b) we need to start our day with a more protein-packed breakfast.

So, wanting to sound like a totally clued-in wife, I said, “Um, I totally knew that… I was already on my way to the grocery store to get more …

Brett and I are borderline obsessed with Reel Inn, a great ‘dive’ bar/fish market that serves up a mean fish taco – and Taco Tuesday is our favorite time to visit.  We stopped in on a whim this past Tuesday as we carpooled toward home down the PCH.

$4.50 gets you 2 big grilled tilapia fish tacos, and we like to wash it down with a cold brew.  On warm days, we take advantage of the awesome patio under market lights, sitting on long benches …

Stonehaus Winery {local eats & drinks}

One of our favorite local spots is Stonehaus. I mean, really — any place that serves wine, good food, and has a good vibe… we’re IN. Plus, a spacious, dog-friendly, outdoor seating area brings it to the top of our list. Priorities, people.

Here are just a few reasons why we love this place…

It’s classy. It’s great for large parties (we stopped here for wine tasting during a friend’s bachelorette!). Did I say dog-friendly? Gelato and delicious baked goods (the macaroons and muffins are my fave!). Serves all three meals – breakfast, lunch and dinner. Bocce Ball courts for playing outside – um what? Indoor …
