[Local Entrepreneur Spotlight] Meet Lelaina from The Gannons Studio

Hi there! I’m Lelaina,

My love for art started when I was just five years old! Growing up I watched my mother paint and once I was old enough she started giving me canvases to make my own creations on (and let me tell you there are stacks and stacks of those creations!). Throughout my childhood I knew I loved art, but I hadn’t found that one technique that REALLY captured my heart. Then I discovered resin art and let me tell you, I became OBSESSED! My main love for resin art is that it takes two minds to create a piece. My mind AND

The [hand]Writing’s On The Wall {Brown & Co. Designs}

As avid DIY-ers, we have been loooving the new emergence of local artisans offering workshops on how to get crafty + creative in their own specialty.

One such artisan, Heather Brown from Brown & Co. Designs, has been offering brush lettering workshops that seem to sell out within hours of announcing a new one!

Lucky for us, we snagged two seats at her latest one, held at MadeWest Brewery in Ventura.  Even on a Tuesday night, this workshop was completely …

Why Macrame Will Be Your New Fave DIY

I’m sure you’ve seen those gorgeous macrame wall hangings on all of your fave ‘grammer accounts — and then you go to buy one, and you’re like, “hi, NOPE.”

Thank goodness for Jessica Needham, entrepreneur and girl boss of homeMADE Ventura!  She is totally rocking this DIY craft that we now love, and taking the 805 by storm with her own macrame workshops!  She invited us to stop by and give it a try this month… and now, we’re hooked. Our workshop was in the beautiful barn at Camarillo Ranch, and provided the prime environment for a beautiful summer Sunday.

Homemade Ventura {local shop}

We love to support small, local businesses, especially ones that make and sell things as adorable as Homemade Ventura.  Homemade Ventura was started by stay-at-home mom (of two toddlers no less!) Jessica Needham. She was born and raised in Ventura and was inspired by the laid back, small town vibe. She started creating macrame wall art using modern, but simple designs.  You can check out her beautiful macrame wall art on her etsy shop here.

Jessica will also be hosting a macrame holiday workshop at MadeWest Brewery in Ventura.  Join her on December 6th from 6-8pm and for just $60 a person you …

Maternity Photos: Malibu Creek State Park {Brooke Borough Photography}

I have known the lovely Brooke Borough of Brooke Borough Photography since she was a junior high student and hung out with my little sister — they both were adorably awkward and hilarious growing up, so it’s so much fun to see what a lovely and talented woman she’s become! (…still waiting for my sister to grow out of the awkward phase… just kidding TayTay! 😉

After seeing her work with Tanisha’s maternity photos, I knew that I had to have her take my maternity photos one day.  Funny story actually — in December, I was in the early stages of my pregnancy, …

Local Entrepreneur Spotlight: Marianne Wilson Photography

We absolutely love supporting local businesses and entrepreneurs in the 805 area — which is one of the main reasons we started our blog back in April 2014! So over the next few weeks, we are taking time to share some of our favorite 805 entrepreneurs/businesses 🙂

Today we are speaking with Marianne Wilson Photography (who actually photographed our very own Hayley Texidor’s wedding in October 2012! You can see some of those photos here).

…………………………..

LL805: What ignited you to start your own photography business?

New Year, New Aspirations {Our 2016 Goals}

Is anyone else asking how it is already 2017!?!

We just can’t believe the New Year is here, and as I’m sure most of you are doing/have done, we are reflecting on 2015, what we accomplished, what failed, what’s been working, what needs to change, etc.  January always brings with it the thrill of a blank slate, a chance to start fresh and focus on the year ahead.  The tag line “New Year, New You” is all over social media, and while we don’t necessarily want a “new us,” we just want to be the “best us” that we can be.

We’ve been blogging …
