How to Make a Festive Tablescape {DIY}

Big dinners and holiday parties is one of the reasons why I love this time of year.  But we all know hosting friends and family can also be super stressful.  Last year Mark and I hosted Thanksgiving at our new house and I definitely was stressed. We had just moved into our new home, had a new baby, and were hosting family from out of town.  I was having major mom brain/sleep deprivation thanks ot my adorable 2 month old, so I had a vision of what I wanted to do, but no real plan.

And when I started laying out my generic plan of …

Butternut Squash Soup {DIY Recipe}

So I am by no means a great cook, but one thing I can make is butternut squash soup.  And I only say this because my husband told me so:)  Thanks to Pinterest (yes, I actually made something that I found on Pinterest!) I found this delicious recipe for butternut squash soup complete with bacon… because as we all know, bacon makes everything taste better. Duh.

This recipe is from good old Martha Stewart, so you know it’s amazing and — believe me — it is pretty easy to make! I have a new baby so I’m not spending …

Another Kipling Home Remodel {Part 2}

We are in the final home stretch of our remodel (read my Part 1 here) and as you can see someone is excited to be back in her crib.  Despite being so close to the end, this is the part that feels like it takes the longest.  It’s all the little things, touch ups, and finish work that can take a long time to complete.

We definitely have to give a big shout out to our contractor Avi from ARY Construction. When you are taking down walls, adding a bathroom, redoing electrical, etc. it is so helpful to have …

Another Kipling Home Remodel {Part 1}

So people probably think Mark and I are crazy for moving and remodeling a home, yet again (ICYMI, it’s our 3rd home in 6 years of marriage!).  Not to mention, we keep taking on these projects while I’m pregnant…and this time with a toddler in tow!  Yeah, I guess we’re a little crazy 😉

For some reason, every couple of years we get the itch to buy a fixer upper.  Even through the stress and chaos, there’s obviously something about it that we really enjoy. Although this time, I told Mark “we’re not moving again until we’re 80…or at the very least we better stay in this house …

Building Our Very First Home {Part 9}

I’m a bit overdue, sorry guys! So much has happened too. Don’t worry, we are not keeping our house two-toned though;) That yellow color is the way the hardie board comes and the greenish grey is the color we will be painting our house! You like it!? You better! 😉 We are super pleased with the way the color turned out, can’t wait for them to paint the whole house. They had to stop mid-way through because there were too many workers – so we had to get the stone veneer up and roof done first.

Fakesgiving 2015: Recap {Part 4}

Things I learned this Fakesgiving:

I can fit 80 people (and 10 children under the age of 4!) in my backyard, Three turkeys are juuuuust barely enough to feed a small army, Egg nog + Kahlua is a very tasty and satisfying treat to wind down at the end of a successful party, and Fakesgiving has become bigger than I ever even imagined.

I’m still processing everything from last Saturday’s 6th Annual Fakesgiving festivities, but if I were to sum it up in one word, it would be: AWESOME.  Here’s a photo recap of how it all went down.

**But first, I need to give a special LL805 …

Five Friday Faves {This Week’s Edition}

Before we get to our Five Friday Faves, we just wanted to take a moment to recognize all the men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our country and our freedom.  We will never forget September 11th, the lives lost, and the courage and bravery we witnessed that day.

::::::

1. Our friends over at Tater & Tot Style recently made this adorable sign for the kitchen and we LOVE it and want to make one of our own…and you will too!  Oh and they also have adorable style (duh!) so be sure …

Building Our Very First Home {Part 3}

Our house is still in progress [and yes, we’re still alive;)]!

We’ve been told the foundation is the toughest part, and, “if your marriage can survive building a home, you can survive anything!” So… so far I’d say we’re doing very well. However, it doesn’t seem to be getting any easier just yet 😉

Since my last update, we’ve done quite a bit. First, we built the stem and retaining walls, which hold the house up. So they’re very important. Then we poured the slab foundation — also, very important. Building our home - stem walls - LocalLove805Building …

Building Our Very First Home {Part 2}

ICYMI: We’re building our very first home in Agoura Hills … and doesn’t it look lovely!?

We are now in week 7 of construction. We have completed the grading, which you can see in my first post here, and now finished the footings for our foundation.

We’ve come across a few delays (as expected), like the intricate details in our hillside foundation which made it much more difficult as well as the rainy weather and holidays. My husband Luke has done such a great job at managing the project though – making sure our sub-contractors are on schedule and coordinating the right inspections. He goes to the City of Agoura Hills way …

Baby Reese’s Nursery Reveal {DIY}

So finally this month {when Reese turned 4 months old!} we not only ordered her birth announcements (better late than never right?), but we also finished her nursery!

Yes that’s right… we just recently finished.  In case you didn’t know, life with a baby is a little hectic and you don’t really get anything done — other than keeping that sweet babe alive and well.

We also finished renovating our house and moved in right after she was born, so I was unfortunately unable to take advantage of that “nesting period” when I was pregnant.  So anyways, like I said, it’s DONE! And now it’s …
