3 Must Do’s When Hosting Visitors in the 805

Living in Southern California, you get a LOT of visitors. And living in Southern California, there’s a LOT to see and do. When you have visitors in town, it can be difficult to narrow it all down to just a few “must see” spots. We recently had Luke’s mom and sister in town from Wisconsin, and of course, high on their list of to-do’s was beach, wine tasting and shop.

So difficult to do in the 805, right?! HAHA not at all 🙂

Here’s a look at a few of our fave “go-to/must-see” local spots for out-of-towner guests:

First on the to-do list, beach.Point …

Five Friday Faves

1. This Sunday is Mother’s Day and every mom deserves to be celebrated! In case you didn’t know, being a mom is HARD so to show your mom (or mother figure) how much you love and appreciate her (because you better!), we have our top 10 Mother’s Day ideas on the blog.

2. It’s our (Hayley and Tanisha’s) sister’s birthday this weekend (HBD Ry!) and we are going to celebrate with some local wine tasting at DeLiese Cellars and Giessinger Winery (we’ve never been to either).  We really like wine and love trying out new wineries.

What are some of your favorite local …

The Perfect Central Coast Getaway

During the last week that my husband was out on paternity leave, we decided that we wanted to do something memorable before he headed back to work.  After a bit of searching on the HotelTonight app [genius concept, btw!], we settled on staying at The Cliffs Resort, located right between Pismo Beach and Avila Beach.

[hint: there’s currently a TravelZoo deal for this place, which includes a free upgrade!]

Also, perhaps in a moment of insanity, we decided to bring our dogs along, as well!  Decidedly outnumbered with two pups and a 3-week-old infant, we …

How To: Put Together the Ultimate Charcuterie Plate {featuring Boutique Wine Club}

So… I have a confession.

I. LOVE. CHEESE.  Of all kinds. Unconditionally. Head over heels. Wanna marry it. Obsessed.  {Phew, thanks for listening. I feel so much better with that out in the open.}

But, a man cannot live on cheese alone [that’s how the saying goes, right?].  A perfectly-balanced cheese plate needs more than just, well, cheese.  This is when the fancy term “charcuterie” comes in.

Pro tip: it’s pronounced “shar-KOO-ter-ee” — now you can sound very French and sophisticated. You’re welcome.

We wanted to …

Hello, Hidden Gem: Casa Dumetz Wines {Los Alamos}

As a local 805-er, we find ourselves cruising up the PCH/101 quite often. I mean, it is the best road trip route, right? And, it’s right at our fingertips. My family has some favorite pit stops along the way — to name a few, Anderson’s Pea Soup in Buellton, Solvang for some ableskivers, and McLintocks Saloon for dinner in Shell Beach on the way back. Los Olivos and Paso Robles are also favorite stops of ours, but be warned: you will want need more than a “quick stop” — there’s just that much to see …

The Club Everyone’s Been Waiting For {& how you can JOIN NOW}

True story: 98{fd7f0a6624fbd2224f3c60e3404acbd2207eb416c38268e7e97265ebe361b912} of the time I buy wine, I look for the prettiest label.

Sure, I’d love to actually know what I’m buying, where it’s from, and hey, if I’d actually even like how it tastes.  But, as I peruse the wine aisle for the 437th time, I can’t help but go back to my old habits.

But, what if — just what if — there was a wine club that only sourced local wines from the Santa Barbara/Paso Robles area, delivered specialty-curated shipments directly to your door, promising ultra-premium, limited-production wines that you can’t find in grocery stores, at the lowest winery-direct pricing, that also …

This Hidden Gem of a Small Town Has it ALL {Los Alamos}

One of my favorite road trip pit stop discoveries is the little town of Los Alamos. It’s a true hidden gem. Nestled 50 miles north of Santa Barbara just off the 101, it offers history, charm and beauty. It’s located in the heart of Santa Barbara Wine Country amidst the agricultural farmland and hills of oak trees. And as you drive down the main street you immediately get a sense of the laid-back lifestyle and small town feel.

3 Reasons Why We Love Refugio Ranch… And You Will Too

Looking for your next adventure? So were we and boy, do we have you covered:)

On our recent “sister weekend” trip to Los Olivos, Santa Ynez and Solvang, we had the pleasure of visiting Refugio Ranch‘s vineyard and tasting room in Los Olivos. We didn’t know what to expect when driving down the dirt road, but we were quickly blown away by the beauty of the vineyard, the hospitality of Max (the son of Kevin Gleason the owner) and his beautiful wife Vanessa, and the delightful wines we tasted.

3 Reasons why we love Refugio Ranch:
