Hello Weekend! Hello Fun! Hello coffee! I was up all night with a 4 month old who thinks it’s fun to wake up every 3 hours — so, bring on the coffee! But at least it’s Friday and time to share this week’s edition covering where to eat, drink, shop, play, and explore in the 805. I don’t know about you, but I’m planning on heading outdoors and enjoying this lovely Spring weather:)
Did you know that April is Ojai Pixie Tangerine Month?!? We follow several Ojai restaurants on Facebook and Instagram and the recipes they’ve been making with Ojai Pixies sound absolutely amazing — our favorites being the cocktails of course!
Speaking of cocktails, Ojai Valley Inn and Spa is having “Pix-ology” Cocktail Classes every Friday from 4:30-5pm during the month of April. These classes are led by an award-winning bartending team and include samplings of two cocktails and a guided demonstration of how to create Pixie cocktails.
As we mentioned above, there are so many restaurants and bars featuring Pixies on their menu (like the Pixie flavored frozen yogurt, Pixie margaritas, Pixie Kumquat marmalade and the list goes on & on!). You can check out the Ojai Festival website here for more information on events, activities and restaurants dedicated to Ojai Pixie Tangerine Month.
This Sunday April 12th from 10am-4pm is the Westlake Village Community Street Festival. This festival (which is free!) has, what they characterize as, vendors galore selling handcrafted merchandise. Sounds like a fun day of shopping to us! There will also be gourmet food trucks and a Battle of the Brews.
I mean, what better way to shop than with eating delicious food and drinking amazing beer?!? In addition to the shopping, eating, and drinking there will be a Kids Zone (so you can shop in peace;) and a Classic Car Show. All in all it sounds like an amazing day outside — oh, and did we mention that all proceeds from this event benefit local charities? For more information check out the Westlake Village Rotary website here!
We call this play because, as you may have realized by now, we really enjoy participating in local races. It’s a great way for us to get outdoors and workout, as well as bring awareness and support towards a great cause. This weekend there are two such events happening that you can be a part of.
This Saturday is the Walk MS Conejo Valley event at Conejo Creek Park North. Registration begins at 8am and opening ceremony at 9:30am. This offers a 1K family fun route and a 5K route. This event raises money to stop MS in its tracks. There will also be entertainment at the finish festival with food, music, team booths, fun giveaways and more! You can participate in this event knowing that your money is going to a great cause- more than $50 million was invested last year to support more than 380 new and existing research around the world while providing program services t0 more than 1 million people. Now that’s a way to help create a world without MS!
If a Sunday event is more your style, then head on over to the Pleasant Valley Lions Club 5K Peel Out. There will be a 1 mile “fun run” as well as a 5K starting at 8am. This event will be held at the beautiful Camarillo Ranch House and proceeds from this event benefit Pleasant Valley School District wellness programs (where Hayley and Tanisha went to elementary school! Go Santa Rosa Eagles!).
And if running is not your idea of fun, you can check out Movie Night at McCrea Ranch. This fun family-friendly event takes place on Saturday at 7pm. They will be showing “Birds of Paradise”, a 1932 romantic comedy and fresh popcorn, candy, and beverages will be provided.
This weekend we have three fun events for you to explore! First, is the Chumash Day Powwow and Intertribal Celebration held in Malibu on Saturday from 11am-7pm and Sunday from 10am-5pm. This is a free event representing hundreds of tribes who will gather at Malibu Bluffs Park. There will be Native American food, craft vendors, tribal ceremonies, and dances.
Next, the City of Calabasas is celebrating Earth Day on Saturday from 2-5pm at the Las Virgenes Creek site. This is another free event that was created to be a day of education, celebration, and action. The Calabasas Earth Day Festival will have a green expo, free giveaways, recycling art contest, learning booths, and wildlife presentation.
Lastly, we have the Diamond American MusicFest held at the Leonis Adobe Museum in Calabasas. This event takes place on Sunday from 11am-6pm and features international and local music. This is definitely a family-friendly event as it also has a petting zoo, games and prizes, horseshoe pitching, arts and crafts, face painting, and more! This event is more than just fun- it helps raise money to benefit the Jennifer Diamond Cancer Foundation.
So we hope you all have an amazing weekend and don’t forget to tag us on facebook, instagram, and twitter when you are out and about in the 805! Happy weekend all!
