Take a Pizz-a My Heart {Urban Pizza}

If you know me, you might know that I have a strong pull toward a few things in life — two of them being melted cheese and discounts.

Naturally, I was drawn to announcements of the newest pizzeria in town, Urban Pizza, which just opened up a new location in Westlake Village [right next door to the Trader Joe’s with the world’s narrowest aisles 😉 ].

Their Grand Opening Event, which spanned over the course of three days, offered HUGE discounts, free items, and tons of perks to get you through their doors.  We made our way there on Saturday to take advantage of the “88 cents for any pizza” deal, which was definitely worth the wait in line.

Let me just preface this review by saying that if anyone offers me free soft serve gelato, I will probably make any excuse to detour into your place of business.  However, it’s the amazing pizza toppings that will keep me coming back for more.

… okay, maybe you missed that. FREE. GELATO.  And that’s not just during the Grand Opening.  That’s all. the. time, people.

All pizzas are $9.88, including Create-Your-Own pizzas with — wait for it — unlimited toppings.  My head was spinning as I looked at how many gourmet and specialty toppings that are available.

The fact that each pizza is cooked-to-order in a stone fire oven really gives this fast casual restaurant a little extra je ne sais quoi.  Everything was remarkably fast — at least, that’s what it felt like, or maayyybe I was distracted while eating my 2nd cup of gelato.

Brett and I decided to order one Create-Your-Own pizza [creamy white sauce, bacon, spinach, artichoke hearts, + sun-dried tomatoes], and one Dolcezza dessert pizza [creamy ricotta sauce, Nutella, bananas, EVOO, caramelized powdered sugar].  Hey, if you’re getting them for pretty much free, why not get some that sound a little weird, and see if they’re amazing?

Turns out… they were AMAZING.

Urban Pizza also offers beverages to entice the entire family — beers in bottles and on tap [score!] as well as Puck’s Handcrafted Sodas in flavors like black cherry and vanilla cream.  See? Everyone’s happy!

Plus, I got this super-cute reusable shopping bag, which I subsequently used to buy more cold-brewed coffee at Trader Joe’s next door — love that stuff!

Hope you guys enjoy this place as much as we did!  We can’t wait to go back to try another one of their delicious creations.

[hint: gluten-free options are available, as well as wings + salads, too!]
