This Week’s Edition {eat. shop. play. explore.}

Not sure if you have tried Mouthful Eatery in Thousand Oaks, but if you haven’t – you must! My husband and I have gone there a couple of times and love it. Check out my blog post here for more details.  Their food is amazing and right now they are offering a free side, dessert, or lemonade when you purchase a $25 gift certificate.  So basically you can grab a yummy lunch, buy some gift cards for family and friends and get a little treat for yourself at the same time!

Paul Martin’s American Grill in Westlake Village is also offering a $25 bonus when you purchase a $100 gift certificate (one for you, one for me – thank you!).  So now is the perfect time to try out their delicious holiday menu (it only lasts until January 3rd!) while getting some Christmas shopping done at the Westlake Promenade.  As you can see, we’re all about multitasking:)  I personally want to try the southern fried game hen served with apple slaw and the egg nog made from scratch in house (!!!) – which they offer a version with Maker’s Mark Bourbon and Meyer’s Dark Rum.  Yum! You can check out more of their holiday menu here.

We recently highlighted the plethora of local holiday boutiques in a previous post here and here. Below are some photos from the 1st Annual Holiday Boutique hosted by Thousand Oaks High School PTSA. My mom and aunt (pictured below) made their own holiday tiered plates. All proceeds went toward the Himalayan Joy Home non-profit that they are closely involved with (I definitely recommend checking it out- if you haven’t done so already!).

There were a ton of local artisans, shops and small home businesses at the boutique – some of my favorites were the handcrafted wooden home goods by Custom Creations and Sweet Dog Soaps pictured below!  If you are a local artisan, and are interested in participating in next year’s holiday boutique, send an email to

[side note: TOHS PTSA also sells discount Disneyland tickets, so if you’re planning on going to the Merriest Place on Earth, contact them first!]

TOHS Holiday Boutique 2014TOHS Holiday Boutique - Soaps 2This weekend is also the weekend to shop around Ventura Village! Why you ask? Not only is it a fun place to eat, shop, play and explore but they’re also hosting the 38th Annual Ventura Harbor Parade of Lights & Fireworks on Friday & Saturday! The parade starts at 6:30pm and fireworks are at 8pm. You can find out more info, as well as more holiday events, on our post here.

The Conejo Recreation and Park District is having their popular Jingle Bell Hike this Saturday Dec. 13th from noon to 2pm. There will be a short 1/4 mile hike (so very family friendly) through the Thousand Oaks Botanic Gardens. Bonus: It’s decorated for the holidays (now we really want to go check it out!).  There will also be holiday crafts, entertainment, hot chocolate and pictures with Santa during the Jingle Bell Hike! {FYI pre-registration is required}

One of our favorite family traditions is jumping in the car as a family, grabbing a Christmas treat and festive drink, and heading out to explore local Christmas light displays.  Nicole recently wrote a blog post that you can read here with some of the best areas to check out beautiful local neighborhood light displays.

Be sure to also check out the Bethlehem Experience (happening this weekend only) at Westminster Presbyterian in Westlake Village from 5-9pm.
