This Week’s Edition {eat.shop.play.explore}

You guys…it’s the last weekend before Christmas.  I do not lie.  Did it come lightening fast for anyone else?!? I’m one of those people who counts down the days to Christmas– it definitely is my favorite time of year.  So now that it is almost here I am realizing all the things I have left to do/want to do.  I only decorated my tree with half the ornaments I usually do and I haven’t wrapped a single present yet. But you know what? Oh well!! No time for that (I think this has a lot to do with just having a baby and moving into a new house).

Instead I’m enjoying my new home, the new addition to my family and spending time with family and friends.  Hayley recently wrote a great post on what she’s thankful for this holiday season and it made me realize all the amazing things I have in my life already.  So I hope you aren’t too overwhelmed with the quickly approaching Christmas and that maybe you even have time to go out this weekend and get a little eat & drink, shop (hello holiday shopping!), play and explore on! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

eat&drink.

OK this week it’s mostly drink because let’s face it, we all need a drink or two around the holidays with all the busyness of the season, but also because there really is nothing better than sitting down with a nice glass of wine, holiday cocktail, or hot cup of tea of cocoa with the ones you love.

local DIY mulled cider

Hayley is currently working on a recipe for a homemade coffee liqueur to give to friends and family.  I can’t wait to try it in a holiday cocktail or cup of spiked hot coffee while sitting by the fire 🙂 Nicole made a bunch of mulling spices which work great for mulled cider or mulled wine.  Her mulled wine is always a hit at holiday gatherings! My mom also recently discovered Winter Jack, an apple spiced Jack Daniels cocktail that she loves warmed up! What are some of your favorite holiday drinks? We would love to hear what you are currently drinking and we might want to make it ourselves!

shop.

Like I said earlier– it’s the last weekend before Christmas and in case you don’t have too much time left to shop or you already blew your gift budget, check out our DIY holiday gift posts herehere and here!  These are some easy ways to put together great gifts for your family, friends or neighbors! We are also planning on making our own gift baskets for our extended family complete with wine, wine bottle toppers and these wine glass tumblers my sister-in-law found at a local dollar store {in case you didn’t notice my family likes their wine ;)}.  These would be great with some of your favorite local 805 wines like Saddlerock, Cielo or Los Robles Hills– just to name a few because we have so many great local wineries here!

What DIY gift ideas do you have for this holiday season! We would love for you to share with us because we might want to steal it and make them ourselves ;)!!!

As a little side note, Conejo Deals is currently offering a deal for wine tasting for two plus two glasses of wine at Sunland Vintage Winery Tasting room in Thousand Oaks, which is another great gift for the wine lover in your life! They also have a few other deals still going on for local restaurants and gyms so be sure to check them out as well!

play.

Last year just before Christmas, my husband surprised me with tickets to see the Nutcracker at the Civic Arts Plaza in Thousand Oaks.  I had not been to the Civic Arts Plaza in such a long time and we had so much fun! The ballet was amazing and the Nutcracker is always a fun one to see around the holidays.  This year there are two different productions of the Nutcracker, one by the Moopark Civic Ballet and the other by the Pacific Festival Ballet.  You can catch either of these ballets this Saturday and Sunday by visiting the Civic Arts Plaza website here.

If you are in the mood for something a little different, you can also head to the Civic Arts Plaza to see An Irish Christmas this Sunday 12/21, which I have not yet seen myself, but have heard is an amazing music, dance and storytelling.

There are quite a few Chanukah celebrations happening this weekend around the Conejo Valley.  The Shoppes at Westlake Village is hosting a grand menorah lighting this Sunday from 5-6:30pm complete with a live circus act, juggler, live music, crafts and yummy treats! For more information, check out their flyer here.

For more Chanukah celebrations and menorah lighting events, check out Conejo Valley Guides post here.
