This Week’s Edition {eat. shop. play. explore.}

eat {and drink}.

Yesterday was National Tequila Day and today is Friday – I think that means it’s time to lay back and enjoy a delicious margarita (or two), right!?

Lucky for you, we recently made our own DIY pear and peach jalapeño margaritas – and they were delicious! Here’s the recipe we based our Peach Jalapeno Margarita off of, courtesy of Baking Addition, and then we made our own version of this with pears! Both were delicious and we highly suggest putting an umbrella in your drink — then you can really lay back 🙂

We recently had a friend inform us about the cutest home store in Westlake Village called Hoot n ‘Anny Home. Hoot n ‘Anny specializes in that rustic farmhouse, contemporary cottage-style home furnishings and decor that we (and everyone else) are so in love with right now.  Their pieces are all hand-picked so you are sure to find something amazing and one-of-a-kind in this boutique!  Check out their website and facebook page to peek at their inventory, or better yet, head over to the store in person!

This weekend we are going to beautiful Santa Barbara to see Foreigner and Styx in concert at The Santa Barbara Bowl! As we mentioned in our Upcoming August Concerts post, the Santa Barbara Bowl is one our favorite outdoor local venues. It’s so pretty! They host an array of events and have some pretty great concerts coming up (um, Jack Johnson, Diana Ross!?!).

Did you guys realize how awesome it is that we have a train running from San Diego all the way up along the 805 coast to San Luis Obispo, right at our fingertips!? And it’s called the Pacific Surfliner — which we think is a pretty sweet name 😉

This is such a great resource that we honestly haven’t given enough credit to. I mean, trains are awesome – you can sleep, eat, work, play, all while traveling along the coast with beautiful views and skipping out on the horrid 405 and Santa Barbara traffic! We used to take the train up to SB and down to SD often when we were kid (I guess my mom couldn’t deal with us all in the car 😉 — and now this weekend, we plan to take it to SB for our concert! So when you’re planning your next local getaway, make sure to consider the Pacific Surfliner — it won’t let you down!

We added a new category this week because we thought it was that necessary. Some of you may have heard that Malibu Coast vineyards have been granted their own Malibu Coast AVA!!

In short, the AVA application process took 3 years and includes 52 vineyards – more specifically, 52 grape growers and 198 acres of vines. This is a pretty big deal in the wine world, and basically means that Malibu will be now known, in addition to the celebrity-filled, beautiful beach town with glorious mansions, as a very well-respected wine region across the world — and all Malibu wines will be able to now include Malibu Coast AVA on their labels.

So if you happen to visit a Malibu winery or tasting room soon, make sure to congratulate them and celebrate. This is just another reason why the 805 is such a fortunate, growing and recognized area. We are so proud of where we live and want to say congratulations to all Malibu vintners!
